The studious Julian Haart scholar may note that there is no single-vineyard, Grand Cru Frauenberg GG this year. We'll give you one guess as to where this wine went. If Haart's 'Rote Erden' bottling has quickly earned a very serious following, this year's version is, in a way, turbocharged: Yes, for 2024 only, this is the Grand Cru Frauenberg GG. What we have, in other words, is essentially the single-vineyard, Grand Cru wine, declassified into a village-level offering. The wine is available at around 50% of what Haart's Frauenberg normally trades for on the secondary market (around $100-$150). In the last few years, Julian Haart has become one of the most collectible German growers, right there with Keller and Egon Müller. His signature style is one of finely layered fruit, kaleidoscopic and glossy, polished to a mouthwatering clarity. Yet, this opulence, the profound depth of fruit, is countered by one of the most sculpted, most chiseled, and authoritative acidities in Germany. This, in short, is the magic.
