(5/9/2022) The terroir at Clos Lunelles is like that of Pavie Decesse: 100% clay on limestone. The 2019 Clos Lunelles, a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, is vibrant purple-black colored. It leaps with vibrant notes of wild blueberries, cassis, and black raspberries, plus hints of Chinese five spice, clove oil, and garrigue. Full-bodied, the palate has fantastic tension, firm, grainy tannins and muscular black and red fruits, finishing long and lifted. Drinking 2023-2034.

(1/25/2022) This is really fantastic, offering blackberries, blackcurrants and crushed stones. Medium to full body with bright fruit and a long, vivid finish. Agile. Another fantastic wine from here after the 2018. 80% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon. Drinkable now, but better in 2024.

(3/2022) The 2019 Clos Lunelles is refined and classy from start to finish. Crushed purplish berry fruit, lavender, spice, mint and a kiss of French oak are all laced together in a mid-weight, silky Cotes de Castillon that impresses with its silkiness and balance. Drinking Window 2024 - 2034.

(4/11/2022) Coming from the incredible team at Pavie, the 2019 Clos Lunelles boasts a big, ripe, incredibly sexy and mouth-filling style as well as notes of black plums, black cherries, tobacco, and Asian spices. It brings serious fruit and opulence and is full-bodied, has a round, expansive mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and some obvious underlying minerality. It's already drinking beautifully and should deliver the goods over the coming 10-15 years. While it leads with its fruit, I expect it to show more classic limestone character as it sheds some baby fat. Maturity 2022 - 2037.
