(5/2024) Burgundy-trained vigneron George Skouras is considered by many to be Greece's greatest winemaker. Based in the mainland region of the Peloponnese, George bottles whites and reds that appeal to lovers of modern-style international wines, as well as staunch European purists. The favorite Megas Oenos red combines 80% of the native Agiorgitiko grape with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, all raised in French barrels. The wine is elegant and forward, showing juicy dark berry fruits with hints of pepper, tobacco, and mint, with an easy but serious structure of tannins and acidity. Life is perfect when you partner this wine with burgers or a grilled steak with rosemary potatoes.
