(2/2026) All but forgotten, this obscure white grape of the Loire compares to perhaps an Aligoté from Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise, or a lighter Chardonnay from the southern Mâcon. When in the hands of Domaine des Bérioles, a passionate producer farming their own vineyards using organic and biodynamic principles, the end result is delicious as it is unique. Plump in texture like a Viognier, with a medium body and soft acidity, look for clean and fresh aromas and flavors of cantaloupe melon, dried pineapple, citrus zest, and honey with a beautiful background of dried white flowers and river pebble minerality. Enjoy any night of the week with baked fish in white wine-butter sauce, roast chicken with lemon and herbs, chilled jumbo shrimp cocktail, or fresh shucked oysters. A superb value considering it's a labor intensive, estate bottling with miniscule production.
