What Critics Think
Decanter : 90 Points
(4/2/2019) Made entirely from Tinta Negra, this wine was aged for 16 years in seasoned American oak before bottling - considerably longer than the five year minimum for colheitas. Mid-mahogany in colour, it's gloriously rich and dense on the nose with a bolo de mel (honey cake) character. It has a spicy butterscotch richness on the palate, very sweet and pruney in style but stopping well short of unctuousness. It perhaps just lacks the really penetrating acidity that you might expect from Madeira’s traditional white grapes.
Wine Spectator : 92 Points
(2018) Singed sandalwood, powdered green tea, ginger peel and date notes are woven together seamlessly, carried by sleek acidity and backed by a long almond husk accent on the finish for added tension. Everything echoes in unison in the end. Drink now. 225 cases made, 120 cases imported.
