What We Think
Vin Chicago: 91 Points
(4/2026) Villa Creek is best known for their sought after, $70+ Paso Robles Rhône style wines, but as recently as this 2023 release, the family is offering some serious bang-for-the-buck with their new 'Farmhouse' series. This peppery red fruited bottling blends 50% Grenache with 20% Syrah, 20% Zinfandel and 10% Petite Sirah, all grown organically. Impressive, balanced and a silly good price, we enjoyed spicy flavors of wild strawberry, juicy cherry, cassis, compote, and red earth, finishing bright and fruity with plenty of material. This is one of the better value American red blends under $20 that we've tasted in quite some time!
What Critics Think
Vinous - Eric Guido : 93 Points
(6/2025) The 2023 Farmhouse Red is a spicy, lifted effort, with citrus zest and sour cherries forming its inviting bouquet. Silken textures mingle with juicy acidity and mineral-inflected ripe red berry fruit, complicated by a hint of savory spice. The palate is left completely refreshed, with nuances of licorice and sage lingering long. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2030.
Decanter : 92 Points
(9/21/2025) A Grenache, Syrah, and Zinfandel blend that delivers approachable Paso character. The nose shows dark red fruits of cherries and plums, alongside a hint of dried meat or salami. On the palate, grippy tannins frame lingering, slightly cooked red fruit flavors. Straightforward and satisfying, this crowd-pleasing red offers solid impact and excellent value for $24. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2029.
