What We Think
Vin Chicago: 93 Points
(9/2023) But Why? is such a ridiculously fitting name for all the actions of Pieter Walser that we couldn't help but be intrigued and the wine is damn delicious. Pop the cork and dark, rich plum, black currant, dark cherry, warm toasty oak and sage aromas instantly envelope your nose. This burst of fruit translates to the palate in a dense blast of blackberry, cherry and plum flavors residing deftly upon a broad tannic structure with surprising lift. The finish goes on for days. It's a classic full-bodied Cabernet that would give many Napa Cabs a run for their money.
What Critics Think
Tim Atkin : 93 Points
(9/2023) But Why? shows the freshness and precision of its high-altitude source at 750 metres in Ceres. Driven by acidity and minerality, it combines granular tannins with stylish 30% new wood and redcurrant and blackcurrant leaf flavours. Does Cabernet Sauvignon need a partner? 2024-30.
