What We Think
Vin Chicago: 95 Points
(5/2024) Soft, creamy, and full-bodied, the 2019 “La Source” gives layered orchard and tropical fruit flavors of yellow apple, baked pear, guava, and pineapple that are seamlessly intertwined with and enhanced by complications of baking spices and minerals. Who will love this wine? Everyone that drinks world-class whites. At five years of age, this complex and serious Chardonnay is just hitting its stride. An artful combination of new-world opulence and old-world poise - it is mind-meltingly good!
What Critics Think
Wine Spectator : 94 Points
(8/31/2022) A wine of depth and presence, this Chardonnay offers an array of intriguing flavors, from apple and stony mineral to lemon verbena and blanched almond. Takes on richness toward the steely finish. Drink now through 2023.
Decanter : 94 Points
(7/31/2021) The grapes for La Source come from just down the slope in the Seven Springs vineyard from the top-of-the-line Summum bottling, but are tended with the same biodynamic methods, and the fermentation is the same. They are now using 500 litre Austrian puncheons from Stockinger with a very light toast, and the slightly reductive style still shows the influence of mentor Dominique Lafon. La Source is similar to Summum but creamy and a bit softer, yet it has a charm of its own. Drinking Window: 2021 - 2031
