What We Think
Vin Chicago: 92 Points
(2/2026) This 'old school' Napa Cab from Volker Eisele could easily be mistaken for classified growth Bordeaux if tasted blind. Drinking great, the silky and smooth mouthfeel is quite inviting with mature and complex flavors featuring black cherry, cassis, baking spices, mocha, and dried green herbs. Wine Enthusiast quotes a $75 retail, and it's easily worth that. Our price is scorching!
What Critics Think
Wine Enthusiast : 93 Points
(4/1/2024) Black pepper and road-tar aromas lead to potent, superripe blackberries and good, grippy tannins in this full-bodied, generous and concentrated wine made from organic grapes. It combines power with grace as the midpalate and finish lighten up and bring out mint, cloves and cedar nuances. Best from 2028–2038.
Vinous - Antonio Galloni : 92 Points
(2/2021) The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is laced with dark cherry, plum, mocha, leather and spice. Pliant and inviting, this mid-weight Cabernet will drink well right out of the gate. The 2018 is beautifully done. Drinking Window 2023 - 2033.
James Suckling : 92 Points
(12/11/2020) A medium-to full-bodied red with aromas and flavors of wild blackberries, dried tobacco, toasted walnuts and graphite. Firm, ultra fine tannins. Fresh and structured. Needs some time. Try from 2022.
Decanter : 92 Points
(10/17/2020) The entry Volker Eisele Cabernet sacrifices none of the lovely rusticity of the rest of the roster. Aromas of bramble, dried herbs and dried leather. The palate is filled with nervy red-fruits, and finishing with angular but pleasant tannins. A fantastic value for drinkers of a brighter, more rough-around-the-edges Napa Cabernet. Drinking Window 2024 - 2032.
