What We Think
Vin Chicago: 92+ Points
(3/2026) The lasted vintage of 'Fragment' from Desparda is evidence of something we've been considering lately - Desparada owner/winemaker Vaila From is bottling the most deliciously distinctive Sauvignon Blancs in California! Each vintage she often bottles 4 or 5 different Sauvignon Blancs which is remarkable in itself, but the fact that each is so unique from the next, and all are so wonderful, is the thing that no one else is doing. Her 2024 Fragment bottling is plump and racy with a collection of citrus, orchard, and stone fruits all infulenced by her creative ferments and choice of vessels (clay, acacia, tank and barrique), not to mention the top vineyard sites and micro production. All of Vailia's Sauvignon Blancs are just damn good and once you meet her, as we did recently at her small Paso Robles winery, it's game over.
What Critics Think
Vinous - Eric Guido : 92 Points
(4/2026) The 2024 Fragment is a total pleasure on the nose, with a burst of tangerine and lemon zest complemented by minty herbs and a whiff of gingery spice. This is full of zesty tension and saline tension, with citrus-infused orchard fruits and a savory herbal flourish toward the close. It cleans up the palate beautifully, leaving a sour lime tinge and the senses salivating. The Fragment, a varietal Sauvignon Blanc, is refined in a mix of 47% neutral barrels, 32% amphora and 11% new acacia barrels. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2029.
