(10/2023) Made from a cépages of eighty percent Nebbiolo and ten percent each of Vespolina and Croatina. The grapes are harvested at the same time and fermented together, prior to aging for a year and a half in Austrian oak foudres. The 2018 version is outstanding, showing beautiful depth on both the nose and palate. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a youthful, black fruity blend of black cherries, dark berries, smoked meats, a touch of road tar, a fine base of stony soil, a dollop of fresh oregano and a topnote of bonfire. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and focused, with a fine core of fruit, lovely soil signature and grip, moderate tannins (for nebbiolo!) and a long, complex and beautifully balanced finish. This needs at least a half dozen years in the cellar to soften up its backend tannins properly. Fine, fine juice and a very refreshing bottle at 12.5 percent octane. Drink between 2030-2075.
