(1/2022) The 2019 Pinot Noir is an impressive, broody, rich wine with a smoky, meaty personality. There's a change to the maturation regimen in 2019, with elevage reduced from 18 to 12 months, but the wine spent its maturation time in high toast Mercurey barrels, which have a strong personality. The depth of fruit carries the smoky bacon-like oak flavors and acts as a counterpoint to the sweet red cherry and floral notes. The finish is dry, savory and relatively robust. I rather like this for its no guts no glory attitude. Best Greywacke Pinot yet? Probably. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2032.

(2/16/2022) Sourced mainly from the Yarrum vineyard, this is an intense and compelling Pinot Noir that strikes a perfect balance between fresh fruit purity and exotic smoky oak. Brooding aromas of earth, savoury herbs, rhubarb, pomegranate, dark plums, blackberries and Christmas spices flow onto the silky, midweight palate, which brims with cleansing citrus acidity, firm tannins and a wet stone tang. Drinking beautifully now, but this layered, complex wine has all the elements to evolve well. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2030.
