Domaine Auguste Clape Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2017

92 Jeb Dunnuck
(12/20/2018) "The 2017 Cotes du Rhone is a more serious wine, with medium to full-bodied richness, smoking good notes of black raspberries, green olives, violets, and pepper, good concentration, and a great finish. Want to get a small taste of Domaine Clape but can't afford the Cornas? Buy this wine."

Fattoria di Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva 2015

95 James Suckling
94 Wine Spectator
94 Wine Advocate
(10/31/2018) "The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is a tremendous wine with an impactful yet very elegant bouquet. The central theme here is darkness and richness, and you get both of those things to the extent that Sangiovese can offer. The magic here is that Sangiovese sticks stubbornly to its inner grace and elegance, especially in a classic vintage such as this. Gravel alberese soils add to the wine's overall sharpness and detailed focus. There is a touch of sweet cherry confit ripeness on the close. Drink 2019 - 2035."

Francois Villard "Jouvet" Cornas 2016

95 Wine Spectator
(11/30/2018) "This throws a plume of white pepper and violet notes out first, followed by a racy, tightly focused beam of bitter cherry, damson plum and red currant coulis flavors. Shows terrific cut through the finish due to a mouthwatering iron accent. A beauty that will live a long life. Best from 2020 through 2035. 625 cases made."

Nadler "Gubelberg" Zweigelt 2015

90 Our Score
(1/2019) Nadler's Gruner Veltiner has been one of our most popular white wines but they also make some great reds! We were thrilled to find the one being offered on a close-out list and we're passing the savings on to you! The "Gugelberg" is Nadler's top red and it's produced from Austria's Zweigelt grape that they grow in sandy clay soils about 40 miles north of Vienna. It's both juicy and dense with waves of brambly blackberry, cherries, and licorice flavors accentuated by the grape's inherent spiciness. The perfectly integrated barrique-aging gives a generous, silky-smooth texture and mouth-filling flavor. This is no mere quaffer but it is a great buy at our blow-out price!

Rainer Wess "Pfaffenberg" Gruner Veltliner 2015

90 Wine Enthusiast
(3/1/2017) "Wonderfully heady hints of yuzu play about the nose. The palate, on the other hand, is characterized by ripe juicy mirabelle plums. This is plump and opulent, yet structured: a rounded and generous souvenir of the 2015 vintage."

Terre di Giurfo "Nardalici" Etna Rosso 2013

91+ Our Score
(11/2018) The show-stopper from our recent Winemaker Dinner with Acille Alessi! This is their most-ambitious wine, the only one coming from the precipitous slopes of Etna, from a vineyard first planted nearly 90 years ago! A powerful wine, but with an ethereal nature and a lighter tone in the glass. Red berries, savory spice, mushroom, leather and red florals - a complex young wine! If it makes you think of Barolo from the North or finely-structured Pinot Noir, you are not alone. Alessi's version packs a bit more power and weight than many in its price arena, and using 15% Nerello Cappuccio provides the wine with a bit more color than otherwise achieved with the noble Nerello Mascalese on its own. This was the most popular wine of the evening, one that makes fine friends at the dinner table with gamier dishes and fine cheeses - and will see itself to its 10th birthday and beyond with aplomb.

Craggy Range "Te Muna Road Vineyard" Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

93 Wine Spectator
94 Wine & Spirits
(4/2016) "This is a Narnia wine, its flavors otherworldly, their shape as regal and bold as a lion's mane, the ruff of a strange and magical beast feeding on onion grass, herbs, flowers and then meat grilled over an open fire. It has a vibrant lightness and energy that lives in the shadows. This grows on the top terrace at Te Muna Road, where the Huangarua River left a deep bed of gravel and stones under a thin surface of sandy loam more than 20,000 years ago. Steve Smith, MW, planted eight clones of pinot noir segmented into 40 blocks, harvested late after a cool season, fermented with 10 percent whole clusters in oak vats and stainless steel tanks, and aged the wine in French oak barriques (25 percent new). All of that combines into a pinot noir with outrageous complexity and the vitality to support it for a decade in the bottle."

Fonseca "Guimaraens" Vintage Port 2013

93 Wine Spectator
93 Wine Enthusiast
93 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2015) "The 2013 Guimaraens Vintage Port is a blend from three Quintas (Panascal, Cruzeiro and Santo Antonio). It comes in at 101 grams per liter of residual sugar. Bottled at the end of June 2015, this 2013 was a bit too sedate and understated after the initial aeration, but it was impressive in its ability to pull itself together, ultimately fleshing out, putting on weight and seeming far lusher and richer. It has lovely fruit and an intensely flavorful finish together with fine structure. It became surprisingly intense on the finish as it held, too, a pattern that was repeated the next day. That said, it is probably not quite as concentrated as it sometimes appeared on first taste. It may drink rather well on the younger side, but I'm always going to recommend holding them a bit to allow them to settle down, and even more importantly, acquire some complexity. For better results, come back in ten years or so."
