Les Vins Pirouettes Le Bubbles de Julien 2015

Winemaker's Notes
"Grapes are hand harvested with a triage in the vines, destemmed, and fermented with indigenous yeast and zero sulfur. The finished wine ages on the lees in stainless steel tanks for 24 months. The finished base wine is then combined with unfermented grape juice from the same vines from the newer vintage for the secondary bottle fermentation to finish as a natural sparkling wine with zero additions of sugar, yeast, or sulfur. The wine is unfiltered and is not disgorged.

(3/2019) Farmed from extremely old vines (100+ years!) this Grenache Gris from the Gibson Ranch in Mendocino exhibits incredible depth with freshness to match. Aromas and flavors of stone fruits like white peach and Bosc pear are joined with a wonderfully textured waxiness on the palate and a streak of acidity that gives excellent balance to this seriously laudable bit of natural winemaking. It's made with native yeast fermentation, unfined and unfiltered. Don't miss it!

Ruth Lewandowski "Mahlon" Mendocino County White 2017

(3/2019) From the Foxhill Vinyard, a bastion of Italian varietals in Mendocino County, this Arneis spends six hours macerating on its skins after foot-treading. Following native yeast, full malolactic fermentation, it spends seven months on its lees. The result is a fruity profile of red apple and citrus, supported by white flowers and pink peppercorn with substantial minerality and structure. This is a must with shellfish or cream pasta.

(3/2019) This beautiful Garnacha from old vines in the high-elevation, steep-sloped region of Sierra de Gredos is spontaneously fermented and then aged in clay amphorae. It is fresh but full with spicy aromas of dried violets and roses, with a very pronounced note of granite and rocky earth, followed by a juicy palate of wild raspberries and black cherries. A more perfect balance of earth and fruit is hard to find at this price. Drink now or hold for a few years.

Underripe pineapple and gooseberry are supported by aromas of jasmine, honeysuckle and Thai basil with wisps of an ocean breeze. This wine will prove essential drinking for Chicago's patio season.

(3/2019) "The Bomb" is a hedonist's delight, but with a purity of fruit and an absence of makeup that you've come to expect from BLANKBottle. A totally unique offering from Pieter, but one that commands the attention of the indulgent. Smokey black plum, fig jam, cassis are radiant with lifting eucalyptus and mint that are a staple of the source. Because of the purity and DARK fruit profile, this wine will crossover to lovers of warm-climate Syrah. Many wines that shoot for this type of target lose track of the beauty of fruit. Without a sea of confected vanilla or sweet spice, this wine is at once full-throttle yet still feels fresh and natural. Though the label indicates otherwise, we are led by Pieter to believe that this is one is actually 15.5%! Treat yourself! The price of admission here should be well north of $30, and don't overthink it - pop it and pour tonight with barbecue, or more of itself!

For a producer best known for Malbec, this sunny white blend is a star.
