BLANKbottle "The Bomb" Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon NV

Lowest price in THE WORLD for this immediate, yet not-overdone pleasure bomb!
91 Our Score
(3/2019) "The Bomb" is a hedonist's delight, but with a purity of fruit and an absence of makeup that you've come to expect from BLANKBottle. A totally unique offering from Pieter, but one that commands the attention of the indulgent. Smokey black plum, fig jam, cassis are radiant with lifting eucalyptus and mint that are a staple of the source. Because of the purity and DARK fruit profile, this wine will crossover to lovers of warm-climate Syrah. Many wines that shoot for this type of target lose track of the beauty of fruit. Without a sea of confected vanilla or sweet spice, this wine is at once full-throttle yet still feels fresh and natural. Though the label indicates otherwise, we are led by Pieter to believe that this is one is actually 15.5%! Treat yourself! The price of admission here should be well north of $30, and don't overthink it - pop it and pour tonight with barbecue, or more of itself!

Meinklang Zweigelt 2017

90 Our Score
(3/2019) This is the ideal summer red is medium-bodied, super-fresh and juicy with ample ripe cherry and cranberry, yet it still exemplifies Zweigelt's trademark granite and spice. Being Meinklang, this is of course biodynamically farmed, naturally fermented, with minimal SO2 and filtration. Will be delicious on its own or with grilled meats and veggies this summer and well into next fall.

The Fableist "Fable 373" Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

90+ Our Score
(3/2019) The Fableist is a joint project between Curt Schalchlin of Sans Leige and Andrew Jones of Field Recordings. Their "373" bottling has quickly become a core Vin Chicago staple in the Cabernet Section, and this 2017 release is delicious as ever! This soft, easy to drink Cabernet is front-loaded with raspberry jam, black cherry coulis and cassis with a touch of oak spice on the long finish. Priced right in the sweet spot, this "any night of the week" red is a no-brainer to load up on as your go-to house Cab!

Bow & Arrow "Johan Vineyard" Willamette Valley Melon de Bourgogne 2017

90 Our Score
(3/2019) A new world focus on Loire varietals pays off here with a Melon de Bourgogne, from the biodynamically farmed Johan Vineyard, that is outgoing and expressive with notes of ripe lemon, peach, tropical fruit and waxy limestone. Its bright acidity, minerality and leesy texture are enough to rival some of Muscadet's essential producers. A stunner to drink now, on its own or rounding out a perfect seafood lunch.

Chateau Gassier "Esprit" Cotes de Provence Rose 2018

90 Our Score
(3/2019) This is classic Provence Rose. Fresh strawberries, raspberries and a hint of pink grapefruit, this flavorful new release blends 50% Grenache with 30% Cinsault, 15% Syrah and 5% Rolle. Juicy minerality and a mid-weight mouthfeel support a tense and tasty finish. Try it by itself, with spring soups or meaty fish dishes.

89 Wine Spectator
89 Wine Advocate
(2/28/2019) "Aged eight months in 26% new French oak, the 2017 Chardonnay Grand Reserve gives up very compelling grapefruit and ripe peach notes with hints of allspice and honey toast. Medium to full-bodied, the palate features a satiny texture with loads of spicy stone fruit and a lively citrusy lift on the finish."

Domaine de Fenouillet Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Rouge 2017

90 Our Score
(3/2019) The incredibly skilled Soard Brothers from the Southern Rhone Valley continue to overdeliver with wines like this Vin de Pays. Blending the hybrid grape Marsellan (Cabernet Sauvignon x Grenache) with Merlot, this earthy, juicy, plummy fruit-driven wine is medium-full in body with a brisk finish and a chewy mouth. Imported by Neal Rosenthal, this is a distinctive winner with more character than you'd expect at this price.

Cambria "Tepusquet Vineyards" Santa Maria Valley Viognier 2017

88+ Our Score
(3/2019) Cambria, the iconic producer of value-driven Central Coast Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, also makes a tasty Viognier! Viognier is what we call an "aromatic" varietal, meaning the aromas and flavors are wonderfully expressive. This bottling offers yellow spring blossoms, nectarine, white peach and roasted almond flavors. It is not shy, with a full-bodied 14.5% alcohol, but there is a brisk and bright backside. Sourced from a single vineyard, located in the cool, coastal Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara County, these grapes were harvested by hand. A crazy deal at this blow-out price!
