Partida Creus "BB" Penedes Ancestral Bobal 2015

91 Our Score
(1/2018) Partida Creus is known for working with lesser known varietals in the Baix Penedès region right on the Mediterranean. They have also developed quiet a knack for turning those obscure varietals into extremely serious and intense wines made in the Ancestral method (Pet Nat). Bobal is the third most planted varietal in Spain, yet most hails from the southern reaches and is thrown into plonk blends of nondescript origins. This is not the case with Partida Creus's "BB" Bobal! This might be the only sparkling Bobal in existence! At least that we have seen or heard of. This is not a Natural wine for the uninitiated, and those not familiar with the style may raise their eyebrows when first encountered. The fruit is slightly elusive, fading in and out as time goes by, but wines such as these are never truly all about the fruit. Savory tones of roasted meat, dew covered moss, wild earth and volcanic pomace round out the other end of the flavor spectrum. The play between fruit and savory notes is a blast to watch unfold. "BB" will take you on a wild vinous trip, so sit down, strap in and enjoy the ride.

Girolamo Russo Etna Rosato 2016

93 Wine Advocate
"Both Girolamo Russo and Graci make Etna Rosato wines that show very similar color intensity. This pale hue of pink and copper is called 'buccia di cipolla,' or onion skin in Italian. The 2016 Etna Rosato is a spectacular example and has really hit the nail on the head when it comes to elegance of color and presentation. Nor does the bouquet disappoint. This is an excellent wine. It prizes linearity, freshness and crispness above all. But it also offers budding complexity with so much mineral definition followed by nectarine and a Sicilian fruit called nespole. This wine should hold and become even finer and more mineral driven over the next few years. Drink Date: 2017 - 2022."

Castel Noarna Vignetti delle Dolomiti Lagrein Rose 2016

91 Our Score
(1/2018) Marco's throwback to the lagreins of the our grandparents' days drinks like two wines in one, and only if you really care about service temperature because this wine is delicious however you drink it. Chilled, think of it as rose if you feel the need to be refreshed; for a lighter-bodied red when you need something a little heartier bring it up a few degrees. Lagrein is primarily planted in the region to use in a style known locally as kretzer, and rarely exported. And when it is vinified as a red, its tannic, black fruit flavors and unhinged stemmyness is really only successfully softened by large amounts of new oak imparting Rioja-like flavors of vanilla and ceder. Thankfully, with Marco's gentle treatment and cellar practices (in his CASTLE), this particular expression lacks the blockiness that often afflicts this variety, and reveals the softer side of the grape. He also blends in a little Teroldego (one of lagrein's parent grapes) for added complexity and savory flavors. Drink up.

A Tribute to Grace Santa Barbara County Grenache Rose 2016

91 Our Score
(4/2017) A Tribute to Grace is the label of Angela Osborne, a New Zealand born winemaker who moved to California in 2006 to focus on her passion for Grenache. We've loved her Rose for the past two vintages but allocations were too small to feature it. We are thrilled that more came to Chicago this year, and it might be her best vintage yet! The interplay between delicate weightlessness and power is seamless. High toned floral notes of hibiscus and orange blossom are balanced by delicious red berries and candied orange rind, leading into a zesty, mineral-driven finish. A soulful Rose to drink now, and with enough of structure to consider cellaring until next year.

Les Capriades "La Bulles Rouges" Loire Petillant Naturel 2016

91 Our Score
(11/2017) Les Capriades does only one style of wine, Petillant Naturel, and they do it very very well. Though they only make one style of wine, the sheer number of bottling of Pet Nats is rather impressive, ranging from white, roses and even a few sparkling reds. This bottling of "La Bulles Rouges" is comprised of 3 strains of Gamay known for their red flesh (Known as Teinturier varietals) called Gamay de Bouze, Gamay de Chaudenay, and Gamay Fréaux. The wine is bright and rich, with intense notes of herbs, red fruits and fresh cut flowers, all balanced by just a faint kiss of sweetness that helps to invigorate the palate. If you like Bugey-Cerdon or Lambrusco this delightful sparkling red is not one to miss.

91 Wine Advocate
(4/28/2017) "The 2016 Rosé is a Xinomavro sourced from the Hedgehog area of the Amyndeon Plateau. It comes in at 13% alcohol. Very Provençal in style, this dry pink with pale salmon color is a beauty again this year. Chateau de la Noblesse Bandol Rose 2016

91 Our Score
(12/2017) A pale salmon meets pink-orange color, this powerful Bandol Rosé begins to show its beauty before it even leaves the bottle! A blend of 50% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache and 25% Cinsault, it presents an alluring nose full of spring flowers followed on the palate with flavors of watermelon, wild strawberry and blood orange. Richvale "Pool Party Pink" Santa Barbara County Rose 2016 250 ML CAN 4PK

Pool Party now comes in cans!
90 Our Score
(7/2017) Richvale Wine Co. is the new whimsical project from Sans Liege's Curt Schalchlin. On this go around, Curt is focusing more on nuance and energy instead of his customary power and muscle. The fruit comes from an organically farmed vineyard in the Santa Barbara Highlands, the same site that Angela Osborn sources some of her Grenache from. It is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre. On the palate, the wine's bright acidity lends to a fresh and invigorating mouthfeel. Orange zest and rind, slightly under-ripe watermelon and tart cranberries are backed by nice minerality. This is fantastic rose, and the tongue in cheek packaging only further enhances the appeal.
