Bodegas Breca "Garnacha de Fuego" Aragon Garnacha 2016

Jorge Ordoñez nails it again! A massively over-delivering red with a very slick gold-foil label.

(3/1/2018) "Brought up in a mix of concrete and stainless steel, the 100% Garnacha 2016 Garnacha de Fuego offers a deep black/purple color to go with terrific notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, scorched earth, and melted licorice. Ripe, sexy and forward on the palate, with notable purity, it's a classic Garnacha to drink over the coming 5-6 years."

Creation "Whale Pod Spyhopping" Cape South Coast Red 2016

89 Our Score
(7/2018) One of our favorite small importer/ distributors focuses exclusively on South African wines. They came to us with a supply of this tasty red which had been bound for a restaurant chain in Washington DC. The chain was sold, the deal went south and, as a result, we were presented a VERY special price. Drinking like a crossing of a Rhône and a Washington State red blend, this enticing combination of 60% Syrah, 20% Merlot and 20% Petite Verdot is pretty darn impressive. Fire up the grill and don't tell your friends this isn't more expensive! (South Africa)

Domaine Bedouet "Le Domaine" Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie 2016

89 Our Score
(6/2018) This tangy, mineral-driven, bone dry white offers a throwback to Muscadet pricing from 10 years ago! Imported to Illinois exclusively for Vin Chicago, it is a total no-brainer for those who love old-world whites as much as we do. Aromas and flavors of lemon, yellow apple, fennel-infused honey and sea salt lead the way to a leesy, medium-bodied palate and a bright finish. This wine is totally drinkable by itself, especially if you're a fan of Muscadet, Chablis or Sancerre, and is even better at the table. Other stores typically sell this for $13 to $14. Our price blows them away!

Kendall Jackson "Vintner's Reserve" California Chardonnay 2016

91 Wine Enthusiast
89 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(1/2018) "The 2016 Chardonnay Vintner's Reserve is very pretty. Orange blossom, tropical fruit, honey and buttery notes are nicely delineated in this attractive, mid-weight Chardonnay. Kendall-Jackson has toned down the malolactic fermentation and now works in a style that emphasizes freshness while also reducing the residual sugar that was once such a signature of this wine. I am not sure which stat is more impressive: an annual production of nearly 3 million bottles or the fact that 75% of the fruit for the Vintner's Reserve is estate. Drinking window: 2018 - 2022."

Bodegas Enrique Mendoza "La Tremenda" Monastrell 2016

92 Wine Advocate
(12/29/2017) "The 2016 La Tremenda is sourced from the vineyard that names the wine, from their estate El Chaconero in the village of Villena, a plot at 600 meters altitude planted some 25 years ago. It fermented in stainless steel and matured in French barriques for six months. 2016 is a cooler year than 2014 or 2015, and the wines reflect it. It was not an easy year; they had to do a strict selection of grapes, and it paid off. It has the character of the variety, with its elegant rusticity with a fresh, herbal twist and a palate with fine-grained tannins, nicely textured and with a supple, very tasty finish. This is a superb introduction to Monastrell from Alicante at an incredible price."

91 Our Score
(7/2018) An outstanding 2016 Cotes du Rhone from one of our favorite producers in the southern Rhone. Domaine Cristia is certified organic. The wine is 100% Grenache from vines averaging 40 years old. You will fall in love with the aromas that are a wonderful combination of red and blue fruits with a perfect dose of spice. Saracco Moscato d'Asti 2017

90 Our Score
(7/2018) The first Moscato d'Asti we ever carried was Sarocco, dating back to the early 1990s. It was the benchmark back then and still remains among the best. This wine covers the flavor spectrum with peach and apricot leading the charge and hints of pear, lemon, orange and peach also apparent. Semi-sparkling, semi-sweet and just 6% ABV, the 2017 Saracco finishes soft and clean with a lingering finish of freshly picked fruit.

Domaine Skouras Peloponnese Moscofilero 2017

91 Wine Advocate
(4/27/2018) "The 2017 Moscofilero (as Skouras spells it) comes in with four grams of residual sugar, 6.2 grams of total acidity and 12% alcohol. The combination makes for a dry wine with a lively feel and vivid flavor. Sourced from vines at 650 meters, this is always crisp and elegant. So, too, this year. Wonderfully aromatic as well in its youth, this is exuberant, gloriously fresh and intensely fruity. The fruit is always lifted, though. Then, it just coats the palate, despite its elegant demeanor. It lingers beautifully on the rather tense finish. On the first day tasted, if it was lacking anything, the fruit was not quite as focused. It was, after all, tasted only about 30 days after bottling. It still has some room to grow, and retasting it the next day clearly proved that. It seemed to answer all questions, barely budging in development but just seeming more precise and focused. This should be a great wake-me-up in the summer, when it will be in better form. It might actually be even more attractive in the spring of 2019. It should also hold nicely for a few years, as past reports have demonstrated, but many won't bother. Being fresh is what this is all about."

Hermann Wiemer Seneca Lake Dry Riesling 2016

91+ Our Score
93 Wine & Spirits
92 Wine Enthusiast
91 Wine Advocate
(4/27/2018) "The 2016 Dry Riesling still has nine grams per liter of residual sugar, but this is the Finger Lakes, meaning it still shows dry-but it is fruity and nowhere near austere. Sourced roughly evenly from the winery's key terroirs of HJW, Josef and Magdalena (a little heavier on the HJW), this is round, ripe and delicious, with classic flavors and aromas and just a touch of sugar on the end. It's a terrific 'everyday' Riesling in price, but in quality it easily exceeds that description. The sugary nuances will blow off as this ages, and it will begin to seem drier. Indeed, I recorked it and retasted it some six hours later. The fruity burst was more moderate, and it was respectably dry, although clearly less so in perception than the Dry Reserve or the Riesling Bio. The next day, it was far more gripping, showing its structure as well as its concentration and personality. As it began to seem drier, it showed more tension too. This is by no means the best of Wiemer's Rieslings this issue, but it is quite possibly the best bargain. Everyone will like it, and it will age well too. Drink Date 2018 - 2028." (New York)

91 Our Score
(7/2018) Delivering soft tart red fruits, clay and white rock earth, medium-plus acidity and medium tannins, this single parcel Chorey-Les-Beaune is already drinking great, especially after being allowed some time to breathe. An honest and deliciously authentic Burgundy at a very fair price.

93 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(1/2018) "Deep red. Highly perfumed, mineral-accented blackberry, cherry and licorice are complemented by suggestions of candied lavender and licorice. Fleshy and energetic on the palate, offering appealingly sweet dark berry, spicecake and floral pastille flavors and a hint of bitter chocolate. Deepens steadily on the impressively long finish, which features well-integrated tannins and a resonating floral note. Drinking Window: 2021 - 2027."

(5/2018) "Fresh and earthy, despite a complete embrace of ripeness, this complex red is lovely and memorable in a constructed blur of dried herb, wild strawberry and vanilla. The oak is integrated and supportive, helping to echo a delightful nuance of white pepper."

93 Wine Advocate
(10/29/2018) "The 2016 Scout's Honor is blended of 70% Zinfandel, 14% Charbono, 9% Petite Sirah and 7% Syrah. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it offers up baked raspberries, fruitcake, dusty soil and Chinese five spice scents with touches of tobacco and potpourri. Full-bodied with a velvety texture and loads of spice-laced berry preserves flavors, it finishes long and opulent. Drink 2018 - 2027."

Prisoner Wine Company "Cuttings" Cabernet Blend 2015

92 Our Score
(6/2018) The 2015 Cuttings, a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Zinfandel, is deeply opaque and fully concentrated in the glass, echoing previous vintages. On the nose and palate, this powerful wine give intense flavors of black fruit compote, blueberry concentrate and fig. You'll find influences of new oak here, along with balancing acidity that makes this "big impact" wine extremely drinkable. Enjoy this modern style Cali Cab by itself or with a big steak!

94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(6/2017) "The 2015 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard is a racy, voluptuous wine. Unapologetically flamboyant, it exudes depth and pedigree. Dark red/purplish fruit, wild flowers, mint, lavender and sweet French oak flesh out in this creamy, super-expressive Pinot. This is another superb wine from Peake Ranch. Drinking window: 2018 - 2025."

Domaine Odoul-Coquard "Aux Cheseaux" Morey Saint Denis 2015

94 Wine Spectator
(2018) "Very pure, with cherry, raspberry and violet aromas and flavors clinging to the vibrant acidity and refined tannins. Builds to a long, fruit-filled finish. The silky texture only gives way to firm tannins at the end. Best from 2021 through 2038. 168 cases made."
