Honoro Vera Rioja 2017

We just took delivery of one final shipment of this totally over-delivering Rioja from the Juan Gil family!
90 Our Score
(9/2018) Made from 100% estate-grown Tempranillo from the Juan Gil family's newly-purchased vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, the 2017 Honoro Vera Rioja is almost too good to be true! Authentic Rioja flavors of plum, cherry, fig, a touch of leather, cedar, vanilla and spice dominate on the palate. With incredible structure, well-integrated tannins and a long finish, this stuff would still be a real value at twice the price! In future vintages, much of the fruit that went into this wine will go into new, higher-tier Rosario Vera bottlings. In 2017, it all went into Honoro Vera! Totally delicious, it is soft enough to drink on its own and structured enough to pair with an enormous variety of foods. Pick it up by the case!

Spy Valley "Satellite" Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018

88 Our Score
(5/2019) This fresh new release of Spy Valley's "Satellite" Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and very refreshing. Classic New Zealand flavors of grapefruit and lemon zest dance with notes of green pear, kiwi and honeydew melon. Robert Goulley Bourgogne Rose 2018

90+ Our Score
(6/2019) Sourced from Pinot Noir vines in Burgundy, near the Chablis region, the Robert Goulley Rose has become a perennial Vin Chicago favorite. This 2018 bottling continues the story. The texture is richer in the mouth than one expects at this price, and the juicy strawberry, bright red cherry fruits and subtle rose flower flavors are brightened by a brisk, refreshing finish. Once again, this wonderfully tasty wine is a very smart value.

Dry Creek Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2018

90 Our Score
(6/2019) We've been working with Dry Creek Vineyard for over 30 years and believe their wines to be more impressive now than ever. We've offered their smartly priced "Fume Blanc" regularly in the past. The bottling we offer here is one step above. Sourced entirely from the Dry Creek Valley appellation, it blends Sauvignon Blanc (76%) with Sauvignon Musque (15%) and Sauvignon Gris (9%). The addition of these Sauvignon Blanc firstcousin varietals, as well as some contact with Acacia and Chestnut barrels, results in a wonderfully expressive wine. Look for flavors of nectarine, guava, blood orange and vanilla creme along with a rich mouthfeel and a zesty finish. Perfect as a cocktail wine or paired with lemon chicken, ramen or pesto pastas.

(6/2018) "(From vines on a plateau above Agrelo on the eastern side of the valley; the amount of limestone in this soil is unusual for the area, which is not normally a prime place for Malbec): Bright red-ruby. Highly aromatic perfume of blackberry, violet and licorice, plus a touch of peppery wildness; I was reminded both of Pinot Noir and northern Rhone Syrah. Plush, savory, pungent wine with distinctive limestone energy giving the middle palate a light touch. Utterly fine-grained wine with terrific subtle flavor intensity and grip. La Mascaronne "Fazioli" Cotes de Provence Rouge 2016

91 Our Score
(6/2019) Chateau La Mascaronne produces one of our favorite Provence Roses, and they also make this equally compelling and delicious red. A blend of mostly Syrah with Mourvedre and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, this nearly full-bodied wine is deep and concentrated with black cherry, black raspberry, blueberry and blackberry fruit flavors. The minerality and rocky earth tones remind us of Priorat, with a touch of fresh herbs on the lengthy finish adding complexity. This is a very elegant and complex wine that totally over delivers, especially if allowed an hour or so in a decanter to fully open up.

Big Table Farm Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2017

93 Our Score
(6/2019) An artisanal cuvee crafted from the eight Pinot Noir sites that Brian Marcy and Clare Carver work with, this wonderfully accessible Pinot was so harmonious and balanced when we tasted it, we had to do a double-take at the vintage. Hard to believe a wine so young could already be drinking so good! It radiates with notes of red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, sous-bois, honeycomb and orange zest that are immediate and pure. Noble, micro-fine black tea tannins would make this a joy to drink alongside a grilled pork tenderloin with cherry thyme reduction. The fine structure and vibrant, integrated acidity will allow it to continue to drink beautifully and further develop through 2024 and potentially beyond.

Forman Napa Valley Chardonnay 2017

92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(10/2018) "The 2017 Chardonnay is a gorgeous wine. In this warm, early year, the Forman Chardonnay is a bit more tropical and racy than it usually is, but that just makes it easier to drink and enjoy over the next handful of years. Lemon peel, apple, apricot and mint are all generous in the glass, but there is a terrific sense of plushness that runs through the Chardonnay. Drinking window: 2019 - 2025."

Dominus "Napanook" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

96 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(10/29/2018) "Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Napanook Proprietary Red Wine is composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc aged in 20% new oak. A beautiful perfume of violets, aniseed, truffles and lavender is just starting to emerge over a core of warm cassis, blackberry preserves and ripe plum plus hints of cedar chest, chocolate box, rare beef and cardamom. The palate is medium to full-bodied and firmly textured with very ripe tannins, gradually revealing layers of black and blue fruits plus loads of earthy sparks, finishing with amazing freshness and depth. 3,500 cases produced. Drink Date 2019 - 2033."

(1/2019) "The 2016 Pape Clement is fabulous. Racy and sumptuous in the glass, the 2016 captures the style that now characterizes Bernard Magrez's wines from his estate in Pessac. Specifically, the 2016 is wonderfully deep in the glass, and yet retains terrific freshness as well. A rush of dark cherry, plum, smoke, scorched earth, grilled herb, leather and menthol builds as the 2016 shows off its compelling, inviting personality. I would prefer to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle to allow its full breadth of aromatics to develop. Even so, there is so much to like. Pliant, supple and super-expressive, Pape Clement is gorgeous in 2016. Tasted two times. Drink 2022 - 2036."

Diamond Creek "Red Rock Terrace" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

99 Wine Advocate
(10/29/2018) "The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace is deep garnet-purple colored with a drop-dead gorgeous nose of creme de cassis, warm plums and blueberry compote with touches of chocolate box, licorice, vanilla pod and coffee beans plus wafts of cedar and cinnamon toast. Full-bodied and rich with gorgeous super ripe, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, it finishes very long and very spicy. Drink Date 2020 - 2044."
