Gini "Foscarin" Recioto di Soave 2010

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $18.99!
89 Our Score
(6/2017) This Italian dessert wine, from the region of Soave in the Veneto, is produced from 100% Garganega grapes that are planted in volcanic soils of the "Col Foscarin" vineyard. Organically farmed, the grapes are are harvested and then stored in wood crates for about six months to dry out prior to being pressed. The wine then sees roughly 18 months in 228-Liter barriques (small oak casks) prior to being bottles. Look for dried fruit flavors of peach and apricot layered with exotic spice. Perfect pairing with light pastries or blue cheese and candied walnuts.

Chateau Les Roches de Ferrand Fronsac 2010

We've shattered the $40 reference price for these classical half-bottles of Bordeaux!
90 Wine Enthusiast
(12/1/2013) "Initially austere in the mouth, this is a serious and complex wine. It has firm tannins, layers of blackberry fruits and acidity along with a strong feeling of wood aging. Powerful and with good depth, it's a wine that needs age."

Domaine du Gour de Chaule "Cuvee de la Vigneronne" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2010

Perfectly cellared, 9-year-old, Rosenthal-imported Cotes du Rhone. We were SHOCKED!
91 Our Score
(5/2019) We're always fans of this small-batch (2000 cases), over-delivering Cotes du Rhone, but this 2010 is off the charts! This deftly balanced wine belies its humble appellation origins. As well it should, as the vines are estate-owned parcels in Vacqueyras and Violes. Winemaking on this 90% Grenache cuvee is very traditional, with stem inclusion and a long elevage in old foudres, bottled unfined and unfiltered. It has since been resting comfortably in our local distributor's extremely chilly warehouse for the last six years, and it is in its prime to trick all of your Rhone-loving friends that it is a $40 Chateauneuf. Smoky, meaty aromatics highlight the crushed plum bass notes and singed thyme overlay. With aeration, saddle leather and a litany of tertiary complexity comes barreling right out upon you. Savory, dry and rather long - the power played out against the freshness inherent in this wine is the real surprise, and probably what has lended to such a successful evolution over nearly the last decade. A very high-level wine for very few dollars.
