Ettore Germano "Rosanna" Nebbiolo Brut Rose (2015) NV

90+ Our Score
(2/2019) This gorgeous, dry and refreshing sparkler comes from Barolo producer Ettore Germano in Piedmont. It is 100% Nebbiolo from a single vintage (2015 for this batch) that sees about 18 months on the lees. Pale in color, this delicious bubbly shows subtle red berries with awesome minerality. The acidity is searing and will clean your palate sip after sip. This is a unique and great choice to kick off a fantastic dinner with family and friends!

Paolo Scavino Barolo 2015

94 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(6/28/2019) "For a few years running now, this has been one of the Scavino family's signature bottles. The goal here is to aim higher than your standard "base" or "classico" Barolo. The Paolo Scavino 2015 Barolo is made with a complicated blend of fruit from seven vineyard sites spread clear across the appellation from Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, Serralunga d'Alba and more townships. Each parcel is fermented separately, and some parcels are split into two or more individual fermentations. In order to maintain the highest quality standards, some 10% of the fruit is sold off as bulk, and once the overall selection is whittled down, the best fruit remains in-house. This is a compact and darkly saturated wine with bold blueberry and blackberry fruit. The wine shows a steady center of gravity in this warm, fruit-driven vintage. Drink Date 2021-2038"

Bergadano Barolo 2012

91 Our Score
(6/2019) Imported directly to Chicago by a local Italian specialist, this classic Barolo eschews the traditional importer mark-up, resulting in an absurdly low price. The 2012 Bergadano gives chewy tannins, excellent acidity and lovely flavors of dried flowers, red earth, perfume and dried red fruits. Drinkable now and over the next 5 to 7 years, it is a great Barolo to serve to your guests. They'll never guess how much you paid!

Monsecco "Pratogrande" Nebbiolo 2013

North of Barolo and Barbaresco, the Alto Piedmont region is home to lesser known Nebbiolo producing zones like Gattinara or Ghemme, but also including this over-achiever from the broad Colline Novaresi. Must try!!
92 Our Score
90 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(6/2018) "Sweet cherries in liqueur, menthol, spice, leather and dried flowers are all nicely delineated in the 2013 Nebbiolo Pratogrande Colline Novaresi. Relatively soft and open-knit for a northern Piedmont Nebbiolo, the 2013 will drink well with minimal cellaring."

G. D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo 2017

90 Our Score
(8/2019) Though all women and men are created equal, this is not true of Piemontese Nebbiolo. The highest expressions of this singular grape variety from Barolo and Barbaresco are fascinating, top-level wine junkie material that command eyewatering price tags and demand patience in the cellar. There are also youthful, carbonic maceration variants that are cheap and cheerful but don't offer true varietal expression. For just under $20, Vajra achieves something quite difficult to do, crafting this varietally authentic, high-toned expression of young-vine Nebbiolo. Floral with lifted notes of strawberry, red plum, raspberry and pulsing food friendly acidity, the Vajra Nebbiolo feeds the need for happy, fresh food friendly wine while your Barolo slumbers in the cellar.

Proprieta Sperino "Rosa del Rosa" Piemonte Rosato 2018

A staff favorite at this year's Rose Tasting at Barrington!
91+ Our Score
(8/2019) Sperino is the re-claimed home of Paolo De Marchi, a man who had to leave Piedmont for Tuscany to make fame (and Chianti Classico) at Isole e Olena. He's back making some of the most ethereal, aromatic and electric Nebbiolo in the world. Here is an 85% Nebbiolo, 15% Vespolina blend sourced primarily from vineyards in Lessona, one of Alto Piedmonte's smallest and most northerly regions. This wine is full of spiced berry, blood orange, white pepper, fresh herb, finishing with strong mineral laid over a creamy texture. This wine is again more substantive than your average Rose and is one of Italy's greatest Rosato wines.

G. D. Vajra "Clare J.C." Langhe Nebbiolo 2017

92 Vinous, Ian D'Agata
(5/2019) "Bright red. Explosively fruity aromas and flavors of red cherry, raspberry nectar, sweet spices and violet. At once big, dense and juicy, but vibrant, with a hint of aromatic perfume that is extremely inviting as is the underlying sweet spice component. So dark and red this is not likely to meet most people's idea of a Rose (this out-Cerasuolo's many Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo wines, traditionally by far Italy darkest pink wines); that said, this is absolutely delicious. I literally couldn't put my glass back down once I started tasting this."

G. D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo 2016

91+ Our Score
92 Wine Advocate
(6/29/2018) "Here is another terrific interpretation of Nebbiolo from a vintage that promises fantastic results with this finicky grape. The 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo offers bright floral and fruity intensity with dried violets, cassis, blueberry and forest floor. The effect is fine and elegant, and the wine finishes with smooth silkiness. The fruit is pressed cold at harvest in order to maintain that distinctive crispness and freshness. Drink Date 2018 - 2022."
