Zorzal "Tinto de Tiza" Eggo Red 2015

92 Our Score
94 Wine Advocate
(12/2016) "The one blend in the Eggo range is the 2015 Eggo Tinto de Tiza, which mixes Malbec with 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon fermented in 2,000-liter egg-shaped cement vats where the wine matured for almost one year. This feels quite complete and balanced, with good ripeness while keeping the balance and poise. The palate is juicy and fresh, with fine-grained tannins and a bittersweet finish akin to sour cherries. Very tasty and long. Super. Incredible for the price. 16,000 bottles were filled in January 2016."

Thurston Wolfe "The Geologist" Columbia Valley Red 2012

92 Our Score
(5/2018) With 40 years of experience in the Columbia Valley, proprietor Wade Wolfe, is a master of site selection. This new bottling of his flagship wine is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon from Upland Vineyard and 25% Petit Verdot from Double Canyon. Dark cherry, black raspberry, red currant and cassis give way to secondary flavors of subtle green herbs, a wisp of tobacco, notes of espresso, rich mocha and a comforting earthiness. These enticing flavors are balanced by lively acidity and sturdy tannins that end in a satisfyingly long finish. The impressive structure flexes its muscle, yet the wine remains sophisticated and refined - a hallmark of well made, and typically expensive, Cabernet. This superb bottle of wine reminded us of a classified-growth Bordeaux from a classic vintage. Our sample bottle was still drinking well on day three, indicating it has a long life ahead of it. While you'll likely want to drink a few bottles now, best bet is to stash some away for at least a few more years. You will be hard pressed to find another Cabernet at this price with so much sophistication.

90+ Cellars "Lot 95 - Super Cuvee" Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2015

Winemaker's Notes
"This blend of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot comes from select vineyard sites in Napa Valley. The Syrah (44%) from Rutherford, the Merlot (32%) from Oak Knoll, Carneros and Howell Mountain, the Cabernet (13%) from Howell Mountain and the Petit Verdot (11%) from a few small plots scattered about the valley. Each variety was fermented separately and matured in a blend of new and neutral french barrels for a minimum of one year prior to blending. Spirited aromas of plum, red cherry and blackcurrant with festive glimmers of mint, coffee and cedar. Decisively full-bodied and punchy!"

Domaine Skouras "Megas Oenos" Peloponnese Red 2013

92 Our Score
92 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "The 2013 Megas Oenos is 75% Agiorgitiko and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 18 months in French oak (half new, half used). It comes in at 14% alcohol. Like most of Skouras' offerings this issue, this has a slightly tart edge in its youth and fine mid-palate finesse. Very crisp and silky, it is more Burgundy than Bordeaux. Also like its siblings, this is rather tight, unevolved and lacking in expression at the moment. As it airs, its power comes out well before the fruit. This looks like a beauty in the making, with a very old school feel, but like so many of them, it isn't the easiest of wines to fully appreciate on release. It does have considerable upside potential, perhaps even more than I suspect. Give this some air and time. Given the price point, it will be a huge bargain when it comes around. It is better drunk in three to five years and it will hold well for 10-15 years, or more after that."

Guado al Tasso "Il Bruciato" Bolgheri Rosso 2016

93+ Wine Advocate
(9/6/2018) "This is absolutely one of the best value wines you will find in Italy and I suspect beyond. The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Il Bruciato is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Syrah. With more than one million bottles made, there should be no problem finding it at your nearest wine merchant. Once you do locate it, I enthusiastically recommend that you pick up a few cases. This vintage comes together with seamless intensity and smoothness. You get so much dark fruit flavor, paired with soft tannins, spice, smoke and dried blackberry. Il Bruciato pulls off its magic effortlessly. It doesn't try to be anything other than it is: Delicious. Drink Date 2018 - 2023."

Swerwer Western Cape Red Blend 2017

90 Our Score
(2/2019) This non-interventionist wine is crafted from old, low-yielding vineyards planted to Cinsault, Grenache and Tinta Barocca. The wine is 100% whole-cluster, fermentation is spontaneous with the wine brought-up for 12 months in neutral French oak. Despite the hot climate origins, this wine is decidedly energetic. Delicate floral notes lift a compact, cherry-fruited palate with good grit and structure from the unique Portuguese variety. A different kind of barbecue wine that has a wide swath of appeal!
