Day Wines "Belle Pente Vineyard" Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2015

92 John Gilman
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
92 Our Score
(8/2017) Belle Pente Vineyard is biodynamically farmed and a source of incredibly high quality fruit. Brianne Day took that fruit and made a masterpiece. The wine was aged for 19 months in four barrels, only one of which was new oak. The oak is hardly noticed as the wine is full of pure and clean flavors of apple and pear with notes of lemon peel and minerals. The body is medium and the mouthwatering acidity leads everything towards a long and crisp finish. Pour this one blind for your friends and see how many of them guess this as Chablis!

(8/1/2018) "Editors' Choice - Domaine Drouhin Oregon's new Eola-Amity wine continues to impress. Supple, seductive and rippled with kiwi, apple, citrus and melon flavors, it's nicely ripe and well melded. The barrel influence is modest, which perfectly suits fruit this good."

Martin Woods Eola-Amity Hills Chardonnay 2017

91 Our Score
(3/2019) There is a temptation to call this "Burgundian" but it is more accurate to call it "Oregonian." This producer wants everything that goes into the wine to be from Oregon, and that includes aging the wine in neutral Oregon oak barrels. This is a lean style of Chardonnay with great depth of flavors. The fruit is a refreshing mix of fresh slices apples and pears sprinkled with lemon zest. Underneath lies complex flavors of rich mineral and subtle oak spice. Fans of both Burgundy and California should check this one out to see what Oregon Chardonnay is capable of!

A.D. Beckham "Amphora Blanc" Willamette Valley Riesling-Viognier 2016

91 Our Score
(3/2018) Andrew Beckham is a pottery artist and teacher and has been crafting his own amphora for use in their family's small winery in Oregon's Chehalem Mountains. The amphora wines, labeled under the A.D. Beckham label have been expanding over the past three years. This new release is a white blend of 97% Riesling (25% from the Beckham estate and 72% from the biodynamically farmed Montinore estate vineyard), plus 3% Viognier. The wine was fermented and then aged for a total of 10 weeks in terra cotta, and then finished in stainless steel. Bone dry, crisp, and very refreshing, this clean white blends citrus, orchard and stone fruit flavors with a touch of floral aromatics. Drink with sushi, Thai food, baked ham, roast chicken or sausages. Delicious!

Averaen Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2017

90+ Our Score
(2/2019) This richly textured, wonderfully balanced Oregon Chardonnay from winemaker Adam Smith is laden with orchard and stone fruit and is a great example of the highly appealing style of Oregon Chardonnay. It also addresses our main (really our only) gripe with Oregon Pinot which is their tendency to have high prices. At $18.99 per bottle, this hits right in the sweet spot. Try a bottle with your California Chardonnay and your White Burgundy loving friends. Both will be happy!
