(7/2019) "The 2008 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is fabulous. Rich, deep and exotically beautiful, the 2008 has so much to offer. Ten years in small casks yielded a Vin Santo loaded with personality, complexity and character. Orange confit, burnt sugar, dried herbs, spice and caramel are some of the many notes that lift out of the glass. A touch of Petit Manseng (unusual in Vin Santo) helps brighten the acids. If I had to pick only one bottle to demonstrate what Vin Santo is all about, it might very well be Isole e Olena's 2008, as it is a real reference-point of both excellence and pedigree. Drinking window: 2020 - 2035."

(10/17/2019) "The 2016 Nero Ossidiana is a blend of mostly Corinto Nero (90%) with Nero d'Avola in a supporting role. This is a delightful wine that shows the glossy intensity and shine of a Burgundian grape, despite its origins in one of the warmest and most extreme islands in the sun-soaked heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Fruit for this wine is grown in the Aeolian Archipelago. Polished tones of bright berry and cassis give the wine lots of energy and buoyancy. The results are elegant, floral and very easy on the nose and mouth. I think this wine is just terrific, especially with a grilled sausage. Some 12,000 bottles were put out. Drink 2019 - 2026."

(9/25/2018) "A blend of 80% Pinot Nero and 20% Chardonnay, the 2014 Alta Langa Metodo Classico Brut opens to a faded copper hue that accents the golden luminosity of this Italian classic-method sparkling wine. The wine is steely and sharp in delivery with a streak of sour fruit that is cutting and edgy on the finish. That sharpness is a bit excessive. The Chardonnay component is fermented in oak, and the Pinot Nero is fermented in stainless steel. The wine ages on the lees for 30 months. Some 15,000 bottles were made."

(10/2020) With grapes harvested from 1,300 feet of elevation in the Dolomites, this bright and high-toned wine makes you feel like you're on a fog-laden mountaintop. This Sauvignon Blanc is macerated for five days on the skins with indigenous yeast, then kept on the lees for twelve months in acacia barrels, yielding juice that strikes a lovely balance between fruit, texture and acidity. Aromas and flavors of lemon candy and pineapple are laid upon a limestone foundation accented by wisps of smoke with powdery tannins barely emerging on the medium-to-light-bodied finish. Only 2,000 bottles produced!

It shows interesting grassy and green tones along with some grapefruit and a curious note of tomato leaf. I love it. The mouthfeel is thin compared to its beautiful bouquet, but that can be countered with an accompanying plate of fried calamari rings or breaded sardines with herbs. Drink Date: 2019 - 2023."

Finishes with vibrant grapefruit nectar notes emerging on the long back-end. An outstanding, classy Sauvignon that doesn't need to rely on unripe green fruit notes for appeal as many of the world's wines made with this variety do."

Finishes with harmonious acidity and a saline, stony minerality. Really quite good. This is one of the three best Falanghina wines of Italy made every year."
