Cattier Brut Antique NV

91 Our Score
91 Wine Spectator
"Definitely something special. This Champagne has riper fruit, a richer texture and longer finish than most non-vintage bottlings, with a soft, lush mouthfeel and subtle, seductive flavors. Delicious, and reasonably priced."

Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey Sauternes 2005

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $55.99!

(12/29/2014) "The 2005 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey offer apricot, fig jam and touch of almond on the focused bouquet, grilled walnut coming through later. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, quite structured and almost austere in comparison with other vintages. There is good tension here, vibrant and citric with impressive mineralité towards the finish. This has great potential."

Guiborat "Prisme.13" Grand Cru Champagne NV

93 Our Score
(12/2018) Richard and Karine Fouquet farm eight hectares in the Grand Cru villages of Cramant and Chouilly. They sell most of their fruit to large houses, retaining a small amount to bottle under their own Guiborat label. While designated as nonvintage, the "Prisme.13" consists entirely of fruit from the excellent 2013 vintage. Disgorged in early 2017, it is replete with high-pitched tension and chalk-themed minerality. The palate is generous and concentrated, giving ripe lemon and yellow apple fruits on the long, complex, nicely textured finish.

Whitcraft Winery "Zotovich" Sta Rita Hills Chardonnay 2017

93+ Our Score
(4/2019) This awesome bottling of Chardonnay from Whitcraft Winery is sourced from the cool-climate Zotovich vineyard situated nearby the Pacific Ocean. Drinking like a Grand Cru Chablis, this expressive wine is bright and lean and tastes like a fresh basket of assorted citrus fruit was dipped in the cool waters of the Pacific. Salty lemon drop notes and plenty of minerality add impressive depth to this seriously impressive wine. This is not your "typical" California Chardonnay. This is Whitcraft. Only 48 bottles made it to Illinois. We landed a mere 18 of them. Don't miss it!

Whitcraft Winery "Pence Ranch" Sta Rita Hills Chardonnay 2017

92 Our Score
(4/2019) Sourced from the organically farmed Pence Ranch in Santa Barbara County's Sta. Rita Hills AVA, this 2017 Chardonnay is stunning. A natural wine, aged in neutral oak, look for clean and transparent flavors of peach and pineapple complemented by earth tones of fresh beach sand and a clean minerality. The body is soft while the acidity is fresh and bright. Burgundy from California here!

Jean Lallement "Green Label" Brut Grand Cru Champagne NV

93+ Our Score
(12/2018) Disgorged 11/30/2017. Quite likely the best Lallement we've tasted in the last 7 years, this latest batch of "green label" is delicious, blending 80% Pinot Noir with 20% Chardonnay, all from Grand Cru Verzenay and Verzy. So incredibly concentrated! Here's Terry's ** take..." Even allowing for fresh disgorgement this is superb, almost delicate for Lallement, but classically silky, very long, chervil and tatsoi; silvery and cool and with a haunting delicate finale of smoke, quince and herbs, at once both earthy and ethereal."

Gerard Duplessis "Montmains" 1er Cru Chablis 2016

98 Wine & Spirits
(4/2019) "Lilian Duplessis took over his family's domaine in 1999, and farms 19.8 acres of vines under organics (Ecocert certified). He has two parcels in Montmains, about 60 years old, which he vinifies separately with ambient yeasts in stainless steel, where the wine rests for 12 months before spending six months more in barrels. Aside from his holding in Les Clos, he finds that these parcels in Montmains produce his longest-lived Chablis. His 2016 is among the greatest wines I've tasted from chardonnay vines, partly for its pure fruit essence, more for its heart-stopping delicacy. It fills the head with scents of white flower petals and white truffles, crisp apple, green pear and shellfish broth. Obtuse in its delicious angles and perspectives on a vineyard in Chablis, this is full of life, that sensation lasting outside of time as those seductive scents and flavors continue to unfold."

Jean-Baptiste Arena "Grotte di Sole" Muscat de Cap Corse 2015

92 Our Score
(9/2018) From the northern end of Corsica, Antoine Arena's Muscat du Cap Corse is a great example of a Vin Doux Naturel you will want to drink. A VDN wine is made when the grape fermentation is stopped before it has finished and then fortified with a neutral grape spirit, in this case with Corsian grappa as is their tradition on the island. Made from 100% Muscat a Petits Grains, an explosion of ripe apricots, almonds, orange marmalade, and honey are present here, but the wine does not come across as too sweet as its high acidity balances everything nicely. Make dessert a memorable one and pair it with fruit tarts or flan!

Caves Duplessis "Fourchaume" 1er Cru Chablis 2016

92 Vinous, Neal Martin
(8/2018) "The 2016 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru offers a little more richness and fruite than the Vaillons with orange zest, dried apricot and light red apple scents, a little melted wax emerging with time. The palate is clean and precise, full of tension and race with a very poised, judiciously spiced finish. Excellent. Drink 2019 - 2032."

Blandys Colheita "Single Harvest" Bual Madeira 2002 500 ML

94 Wine Spectator
95 Wine Enthusiast
92 Wine Advocate
(3/30/2016) "The 2002 Bual Colheita was bottled in 2014 and is limited to 8,000 bottles. It has quite a "punchy" bouquet with scents of dried honey, sandalwood, cigar humidor and dried fig all very well defined and quite mercurial in the glass. You have to keep popping your nose into the glass here to observe the changes. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious entry, quite citrus-like with hints of bitter lemon, orange peel, clove and hazelnut, gently unfolding in the glass and leading to quite a refined and sustained finish. I appreciate the harmony and purity of this Bual - appealing, elegant and poised. Drink Date: 2016 - 2035."
