Vilmart "Grand Cellier d'Or" Premier Cru Brut Champagne 2013

Importer Theise says of Vilmart's wines, which are arguably some of the greatest in all of Champagne, "This estate has undergone a subtle but profound ascension from the earthbound to the celestial." And he goes on to say, "I wonder if a year from now we'll be talking about '13 the way we did about 2008 a few years ago. Because this is looking more and more like magic. This wine is lively and gushes the fragrance of mirabelles, with its typical sandalwood aromas arriving on the mid-palate and into the finish. Classy, buoyant, almost comically long."

Henri Billiot Fils "Cuvee Laetitia" Brut Grand Cru Brut Champagne NV

94+ Our Score
(1/2018) This wonderfully unique and significant bottling hails entirely from the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims - known for its powerful fruit. Scarcely have we experienced as ripe and supple of a Champagne, the mindbender here being that the cuvee is composed primarily (70%) of wine from a perpetual reserve solera with vintages dating back to 1983. 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir. Ripeness is the key word in understanding this immediately delicious, but layered experience. Ripe green and red apples are highlighted by laser-like candied lemon, with a strong undercurrent of fine chalkiness all the while. There's a balance of length, power and finesse that goes beyond description. If there can be at once a connoisseur's Champagne that is at the same time a sumptuous, hedonist's Champagne (a category that is painfully fleeting), this is the one. Hard to resist but cellar for complexity, this is shockingly youthful and primary for a wine with so much reserve stock.

Marc Hebrart "Special Club" Brut Champagne 2013

Winemaker's Notes
The most revered Champagne expert in America, importer Terry Theise, has declared this Champagne nearly perfect! Here's what he had to say about this truly special wine, "There have been great ones over the years - 2002, 2008, 2012 - but none as otherworldly as this, the most exquisite young Champagne I have ever tasted. Deg. 8/29/17, it is quite different from the '12, but just as sublime. 2012 croons, and this one whispers. '12 leaps like a gazelle; '13 flaps its gossamer white wings. '12 is clearly and tangibly great; '13 is ethereally and hauntingly great. '13 is a little like 2008, but with less prominent acidity; still, it's in the family of high cirrus-y skies with mares' tails and ice-rainbows. I wish I had four plusses to give it. Each pure beautiful element of Champagne is carefully arranged to be examined and identified, until they all melt together into Pleiades of nuance and structure. It's an ivory-pale bride, shining with bliss and love, even through her gauzy veil. This weightless masterpiece is 30% PN from Mareuil (Faubourg d'Enfer, Croix Blanche, Pruche and Cotes), 25% Ay (Cheuzelles, Pierre Robert, and Le Leon) 35% CH old-vines Mareuil (Beauregard, Ramonette and Buisson Saint Loup) and 10% CH Oiry and Chouilly (Justice and Montaigu). It is also a Coeur de Cuvee."

Pierre Gimonnet "Special Club" Brut 1er Cru 2012

93 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(11/2018) "Interestingly, the 2012 Special Club is quite a bit riper and bigger than any of the three single-village Special Clubs. Light tropical overtones meld into a core of candied orange peel, apricot, chamomile and wild flowers. In this tasting, the 2012 comes across as adolescent and not fully put together. Hopefully that will come in time. Disgorged: July 20, 2017."

Henri Goutorbe "Special Club" Grand Cru Brut Champagne 2006

93 Our Score
(12/2017) Disgorged 9/2016. Sourced from the Grand Cru Village of Ay, along the Marne river in the heart of Champagne, Goutorbe is one of the most giving and forwardly delicious growers in the Terry Theise stable of small, family owned properties. This bottling, worthy of the "Special Club" classification, is based on Pinot Noir with smaller percentages of Chardonnay and Meunier. The flavors are malty, with light toast and giving red berry notes. Fresh, with lift, but ready to drink.

Veuve Clicquot "Gold Label" Brut Rose 2008

93 Wine Spectator
(11/30/2017) "A well-cut, minerally version, with a firm backbone of acidity and a lacy mousse, layered with flavors of baked currant, toast and lemon curd. Offers a racy, spiced finish. Disgorged January 2016. Drink now through 2028."

Dehu Pere & Fils "Cuvee La Rue des Noyers" Blanc de Noir Extra Brut NV

94+ Our Score
93+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(12/2017) "Benoit Dehu NV (2014) Extra Brut Cuvee La Rue des Noyers Non-Dose is bright, powerful and tightly wound. A wine of energy and vibrancy, the 2014 is going to need at least a few years to be at its very best. Even so, its potential today is evident. The Meunier character is pronounced, but it is the wine's salivating minerality that gives shape, focus and cut. What a gorgeous wine this. Disgorged on August 4, 2017 with no dosage. Drink 2019 - 2026."
