Les Vins Pirouettes Le Frankstein Grand Cru Riesling d'Eric 2016

91 Our Score
(3/2016) This delicious Rielsling from Les Vins Pirouettes comes from the grand cru vineyard of Frankstein (not Frankenstein, but the label playfully nods to the pop culture monster). It is fermented in tank with indigenous yeast and zero sulfur, then aged on the lees for 12 months in small, neutral barrels. It is bottles unfined and unfiltered, resulting in a pure expression of Grand Cru Riesling from Alsace. Fresh fruit flavors of peach, yellow pear and green honeydew melon are met with incredible depth of wet stones and dried white flowers. The slightest hint of sweetness on the finish allows the flavors to linger. A fine pairing with spicy Asian cuisine, grilled sausages or all on its own.

Domaine Ostertag "Zellberg" Alsace Pinot Gris 2014

Lush and lovely biodynamic Pinot Gris from a 0.45 hectare vineyard, imported by Kermit Lynch!
93 James Suckling

(11/1/2016) "The nose hints at a future of concentrated flavors-you sense that this wine will open like a bud in due course. For now the bone-dry palate spells out promises of pear, marzipan and baroque richness. The peel of Bosc pear and green citrus play beautifully off each other. Give this wine time to come into its own and your patience will be rewarded. Drink 2018-2030."

Domaine Meyer-Fonne "Sporen" Grand Cru Gewurztraminer 2011

94+ International Wine Cellar
(11/2012) "Bright golden-yellow. Knockout aromas of tangerine, lemon rind and spicy lemon jelly, all lifted by white flowers. Pure, deep flavors of citrus fruits and sweet brown spices are nicely lifted by refreshing acidity. No botrytized grapes here. This superb wine should age very well. These 40-year-old vines actually grow in the Obere-Sporen, which means Sporen du Haut (or "high" Sporen), where there aren't many owners. According to Meyer, the rich subsoil and small surface stones make for intense, profound, long-lived wines."

Jean-Baptiste Adam "Kaefferkopf Vieilles Vignes" Grand Cru Riesling 2012

Still a baby, but coming into its own. This Grand Cru Riesling is sourced from 60-year-old biodynamically-farmed vines. This is the lowest price in the country and miles away from the $43 reference price!

(9/29/2015) "The golden-yellow color of the 2012 Riesling Grand Cru Kaefferkopf Vieilles Vignes leads to an intense, matured and elegant bouquet which is a powerful and complex mix of ripe fruit aromas, herbs, honey and crushed stones. Very elegant and round on the first palate this dry, full-bodied yet pure and more lean than broad cru is marked by a pronounced acidity that transports lime and lemon aromas into a long and stimulating, salty finish with herbal aromas in the aftertaste. This Keafferkopf combines elegance, finesse and freshness with power, intensity and length in a remarkably good way. Still too young to fully enjoy."

Domaine Marcel Deiss Riesling 2014

92 Wine Enthusiast
(11/2016) "Softer hints of chamomile and ripe apple play on the nose. The palate has some of the balmier qualities of chamomile tisane and a lively, friendly apple freshness. Acidity and fruit ripeness are harmoniously aligned, while citric freshness highlights herbal and apple peel glints even more. This is slender but smooth, lively but mellow and delicious."

Domaine Meyer-Fonne "Pfoelller" Alsace Riesling 2013

(10/29/2015) "Cultivated straight next to Albert Boxler's Sommerberg D, but completely grown on Muschelkalk, the 2013 Riesling Pfoeller de Katzenthal from Mayer-Fonné is from another world. It is deep, rich and intense on the nose but also still reductive, with ripe yellow apple notes and herbal aromas along with the characteristic citrus flavors. On the palate, this full-bodied, complex and powerful premier cru is an intense and firmly structured Riesling massif, with a densely woven minerality and an authoritarian acidity. Although the finish is very long, salty and full of energy, the Pfoeller is still closed and would surely benefit from another five to 10+ years in the bottle."

(3/2019) From 40-year old vines, grown primarily in limestone, this off-dry Pinot Gris gives a delicious range of citrus to stone fruits, a hint of button mushroom and honey, a fleshy mouthfeel and a long, mineral finish. A generous Pinot Gris that begs for spicy Thai chicken dishes!

Mure "Signature" Alsace Gewurztraminer 2016

The touch of sweetness on this spicy white will make it a great pair for Thai or Mexican fare with a bit of heat.

(8/2018) "Notes of russet-pear peel, ripe peach and earth are pervaded by citrus zestiness on the nose. The palate frames these in gentle sweetness but the concentrated fruit and zestiness provide a backdrop of firm freshness. This wine has lovely balance, great concentration and an extended, off-dry finish."
