Seehof Trocken Rheinhessen Riesling 2015

90 Our Score
(6/2016) Germany's Rheinhessen region has produced wine since the days of the Roman Empire, so it is perhaps fitting that champion charioteer Ernst Fauth would put down his reigns for the Riesling of his family's 17.5 ha vineyard. Friendly, food-oriented, and possessed of a finesse that belies its humble price, Ernst and his son Florian take a cue from Klaus Peter Keller (it helps that he's family), to focus on the clarity and elegance of both varietal and terroir. Honey, white flowers, and candied pineapple float out of the glass (there is nothing assertive about the aromatics here), while the supple and creamy palate hides mouthwatering acidity. Underripe pineapple spar with tree-ripened peaches, and fruity jalapeño (no spice in sight) drapes around a strong mineral core, while whispers of honey complement a long finish. Delicate yet no shrinking violet, drinkable yet surprisingly complex, it calls for California rolls and seafood salad, and above all, loads of sunshine.

Seehof Rheinhessen Riesling Feinherb 2018

90 Our Score
(5/2019) Young winemaker Florian Fauth's latest release of this Feinherb is a stunner. Fruit pulled from very young vines in Grand Cru sites make this Riesling fresh yet elegant, with aromas and flavors of ripe red apple, lime zest, jasmine and ginger on an enveloping palate. Its richness, juicy acidity and subtle sweetness make it enjoyable now or a great candidate for a few years in the cellar.

Strub "Herzstuck" Niersteiner Bruckchen Rheinhessen Riesling Kabinett 2015

90 Our Score
(11/2018) We visited Walter Strub when traveling with Terry Theise to Germany in 2011. We were then, and are now, impressed with the straightforward tastiness of their wines - and they are still incredible values! Here's a single vineyard Riesling Kabinett for 15 bucks that you're going to really like. Citrus and orchard fruit flavors are presented in a totally yummy, fruity style and, like all great Rieslings, perfectly balanced by just the right amount of acidity. From the excellent 2015 vintage, this will be drinkable for many years to come.

Gunderloch "Fritz's Riesling" Rheinhessen Riesling QBA 2015

88+ Our Score
(11/2018) Made by famed winemaker Fritz Hasselbach of the storied Gunderloch estate in Germany's Rheinhessen, the playfully packaged "Fritz's" Riesling is an excellent value that outperforms its super-aggressive $10.99 price. A hint of sweetness is balanced by zesty flavors of key lime and green apple. A perfect pairing for Thanksgiving, it will also be great match for Asian cuisine, a wide range of soups and to use as a welcome wine for your next get-together of friends or book club!

Weinreich "Basisrot" Rheinhessen Red 2015

87 Our Score
(10/2018) This delicious, dry German red is a blend of Dornfelder and Merlot. It offers up a balanced mix of cherry, strawberry and blueberry fruits with plenty of earthy undertones and a slightly spicy finish. A nice choice for a lighter, everyday drinking house red or party wine!
