Kanonkop Estate "Paul Sauer" Simonsberg-Stellenbosch Red Blend 2014

Kanonkop's "Paul Sauer" is one of South Africa's top wines. With one foot in Napa and one in Bordeaux, this classy Cab-based blend is complex and delicious!
93 Vinous, Neal Martin
93 Wine Enthusiast
(9/1/2017) "Winemaker: Abrie Beeslaar. Always a stunner, in both regular release as well as the CWG form, Kanonkop's Paul Sauer Bordeaux-style blend is bold and concentrated, with tremendous potential for long-term aging. Made from 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, it's brimming with notes of cassis, licorice root and black-fruit preserves, all buoyed by ample acidity and a pronounced mentholated-herb lift. Bittersweet cocoa, char and chicory unfold on the back of the black fruit-skin fueled finish. Robust, full and firm, drink 2020-2026."

Van Loggerenberg "Breton" Stellenbosch Cabernet Franc 2017

New low price! Original Vin Chicago retail - $27.99
92 Our Score
92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(8/2018) "The 2017 Breton (whose name is inspired by the Loire) comes from two vineyards in the Polkerdrei (100% whole-bunch-fermented) and from the foothills of the Helderberg, matured in third-fill oak barrels. It has a fresh, vibrant bouquet that really articulates the Cabernet Franc in a Chinon style. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin and a little reserved and austere at first, opening with classic bell-pepper-tinged Cabernet Franc fruit and closing with a touch of cracked black pepper on the finish. Excellent."

Van Loggerenberg "Geronimo" Stellenbosch Cinsault 2017

91 Vinous, Neal Martin
91+ Our Score
(10/2018) Another new South African find, this time from an exciting producer in the Stellenbosch region. Alive with great energy and freshness, this 100% whole cluster Cinsault reminds us of a wine from one of Kermit Lynch's natural growers in the Languedoc. Red fruit flavors, floral notes and pepper intermingle beautifully. This medium-bodied wine has the capability of drinking well for days after opening. Young Lukas Van Loggerenberg is bottling some seriously distinctive wines, and his "Geronimo" is delightful.

BLANKbottle "The Bomb" Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon NV

Lowest price in the world for decadent Cabernet from Pieter Walser!
91 Our Score
(3/2019) "The Bomb" is a hedonist's delight with a purity of fruit and an absence of makeup that you've come to expect from BLANKBottle. A totally unique offering from Pieter, yet one that commands the attention of the indulgent. Smoky black plum, fig jam and cassis are radiant with lifting eucalyptus and mint that are a staple of the source. Because of the purity and dark fruit profile, this wine will crossover to lovers of warm climate Syrah. Many wines that shoot for this type of target lose track of the beauty of fruit. This wine is at once full-throttle and still feels fresh and natural. Treat yourself! The price of admission here should be well north of $30, and don't overthink it - pop it and pour tonight with barbecue, or all by itself!

Radford Dale "THIRST" Stellenbosch Cinsault 2017

90 Our Score
(8/2018) Radford Dale's "Thirst" line is aptly named. When one's thirst needs to be slaked, this is what you should reach for! This is old bush vine Cinsault from Stellenbosch that undergoes carbonic maceration. This series is supposed to represent place and site and are made naturally. Nothing is added, and nothing taken away, simply juice. This is super fresh and vibrant, with bursting red fruits and just a touch of spiciness to complement the palate. You just want to simply drink this wine! And at 10% ABV, this is one crushable way to take care of your "Thirst!"

The Winery of Good Hope Stellenbosch Pinotage 2017

89+ Our Score
(6/2018) It's not often we feature a Pinotage, so we are quite excited to bring you this winner from The Winery of Good Hope. It is sourced from two vineyards, one of which is planted with old bush vines. The wine goes through a partial carbonic fermentation which allows for more fruit and less tannin, resulting in a very clean flavor profile. Look for loads of juicy mixed red berry fruits with a touch of the characteristic Pinotage notes of smoke and leather on the dry finish. If you haven't had a Pinotage in a while (or ever!), this very good example is a must-try!
