(6/28/2019) "The 2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (Gold Capsule), AP 17 18, is deep and flinty on the perfectly ripe, intense and tropical-scented nose with its ripe yellow nectarine and peach aromas. The wine exhibits very fine botrytis with crunchy-salty slate features on the palate and is racy-piquant, highly stimulating, crisp and crunchy on the finish, with lingering salinity. This 2017 Sonnenuhr is still very young and needs time to calm down but is still lush and fresh, and the bottle will be emptied before you have even thought about the wine. It's very long, complex and tensioned-just fabulous. Tasted in March 2019. Drink Date: 2025 - 2060."

(7/1/2020) "The 2019 Himmelreich Spatlese AP #8 from the Schaefer family is a really classic and flat out delicious example of its Pradikat level and terroir. The wine comes in at 7.5 percent alcohol and offers up a vibrant, complex bouquet of lime, tangerine, lovely slate minerality, bee pollen, apple blossoms and a topnote of citrus zest. On the palate the wine is crisp, medium-full and succulent on the attack, with a lovely core, fine mineral drive and focus, bright acids and a long, complex and seamlessly balanced, bouncy finish. This is simply gorgeous wine. Drink between 2020-2065."

The wine proves quite lively and nicely focused on the palate, with zesty acidity driving the aromatic profile. The wine is nicely elegant and well balanced in the focused and yellow peach infused finish. This is a gorgeous Spätlese in the making. 2026-2041"

(4/2019) "The Himmelreich has produced a beautiful Spatlese as well in 2018, and this is destined to be a long-lived and superb bottle. The complex nose is vibrant and refined, offering up scents of lime, pear, a nice touch of orange zest, bee pollen, elder flowers, lovely minerality and a topnote of citrus blossoms. On the palate the wine is medium-full, pure and zesty, with lovely inner tension between its beautiful fruit tones and mineral undertow. The finish is long, focused and bouncy, with lovely lift, cut and grip. 2022-2075."

(4/2019) "The 2017 vintage of Fass 2 comes in at 12.5 percent octane and is quite dry, as mentioned above, at just over one gram of sugar. The wine is youthful, but shows lovely promise, with the nose wafting from the glass in a mix of pink grapefruit, orange peel, plenty of smokiness, a fine base of slate, wild yeasts and a nice hint of Saar herb tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, racy and nascently complex, with great focus, cut and grip and a long, poised and perfectly balanced finish. This will need a year or two longer in the cellar to start to stir than the 2018 version, but it too is going to be an excellent bargain. Drink between 2023-2055."

(9/2019) "Fresh pear and apple are tinged with ginger and sea breeze on the nose, then succulently deployed on a buoyant, polished palate. The mouthwateringly salt-tinged finish is transparent to shimmering stony notes and a mysterious ore-like earthiness surprisingly reminiscent of Hermannshohle. "The grapes were almost too ripe for Kabinett," remarked Donnhoff of this bottling, "but you still have that citric sense of acidity." Had he succumbed to his inclination to start picking a week later than the estate in fact did, we would not have a Krotenpfuhl Kabinett - an observation that Donnhoff, with a smile, declines to contradict. The wine weighs in at 9.5% alcohol, and I don't think it would have benefited from one gram less residual sugar than whatever it has. Drinking window: 2020 - 2028"
