Bodegas Atalaya "Alaya Tierra" Almansa 2014

A hedonistic powerhouse! Pure fruit. Pure power, Pure fun.
92 Our Score
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(10/2016) "(Fermented in small stainless steel tanks and aged for 15 months in new French and American oak barrels) Inky purple. Powerful, smoke- and oak-spiced aromas of dark berries, pipe tobacco and candied violet, along with a suave mineral topnote. Fleshy blackberry and blueberry liqueur flavors show excellent clarity and enlivening Asian spice and cracked pepper qualities. Finishes impressively long and sweet, delivering a resonating echo of candied dark berries, lingering spiciness and supple tannins. Drinking window: 2019 - 2025."

Bodegas Volver "Single Vineyard" La Mancha Tempranillo 2015

91 Jeb Dunnuck
(3/1/2018) "From a site planted in 1957 and made from 100% Tempranillo, the inky colored 2015 Volver Single Vineyard is one of the gems in the lineup. With outstanding notes of black raspberries, blueberries, violets, hints of minerality, as well as a touch of toasty oak, this deep, medium to full-bodied 2015 is beautifully balanced and has fine tannin. You get a heck of a wine for not much buck here. Maturity 2018 - 2022."

Vinedos Ponce "P.F." Manchuela Bobal 2017

94 Wine Advocate
(4/30/2019) "The 2017 P.F., which is the acronym for Pie Franco (ungrafted), is pure Bobal from old, ungrafted vines from a low-yielding vintage. The vines are over 90 years of age and are planted at 900 meters in altitude on granite soils. This fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in open-top 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in 600-liter French oak barrels for ten months. This is the wine that shows more complexity and depth, showing the pure character of Bobal on deep sandy soils at high altitude, surrounded by aromatic herbs. The tannins feel quite polished, certainly less rustic than in earlier vintages. This is a mineral, powerful and spicy wine with a mixture of rusticity and complexity, darker than La Estrecha. 8,500 bottles were filled in July 2018. Drink Date 2019 - 2026."

Bodegas Atalaya "La Atalaya del Camino" Almansa 2013

90+ Our Score
90+ Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(1/2016) "Inky ruby. Brooding and slow to open up. Aeration unveils powerful dark fruit preserves, licorice and candied violet, with suggestions of fruitcake and smoky minerals. A spicy note enlivens the chewy, concentrated cassis and bitter cherry flavors. Supple tannins build through a long, smoky finish, echoing the floral and licorice qualities emphatically. Give this youngster some age or a decent decanting. Drink 2019-2024."

Bodegas Volver "Paso a Paso" Tierra de Castilla Tempranillo 2016

90 James Suckling
88 Wine Advocate
(12/29/2017) "The 2016 Paso A Paso is pure Tempranillo from La Mancha sold as Vino de la Tierra de Castilla, the generic regional appellation. 201[6] was a dry and early harvest. It fermented in stainless steel vat and matured in vats and in well-seasoned 225-liter oak barrels for six months. It's fruit driven, expressive, juicy and clean, very pleasant and straightforward."
