Red Newt Cellars "Lahoma Vineyards - The Knoll" Finger Lakes Riesling 2014

92 Wine Advocate
95 Vinous, Kelli White
(7/2016) "An extraordinary wine, this is Finger Lakes dry Riesling at its finest. The nose is an exotic combination of kefir lime, lemon candy, mint, and thyme. The palate is just as expressive as the nose, offering a perfect balance between flesh and acid-rather than one swelling as the other dwindles, they march in sync from entry through to finish. A wine of remarkable intensity and purity, the 2014 The Knoll concludes with an epic finish of tremendous mineral depth. 5 grams per liter residual sugar. Drinking window: 2016 - 2031."

Ravines "Argetsinger Vineyard" Finger Lakes Sparkling Riesling 2013

93 Vinous, Kelli White
(7/2016) "Vibrant pale gold. Made in the methode Champenoise and kept on its lees for two years, this lovely wine combines the two things the Finger Lakes does best: Riesling and sparkling. For this vintage, 2013, no still Argetsinger Riesling was made, as winemaker Morten Hallgren thought that the balance of the fruit at harvest time was more befitting a sparkling style. The high-toned, aromatic nose offers scents of lemon rind, sea air, chalk, and a subtle floral accent. The palate is bracing but balanced, with terrific depth, persistent, medium-sized bubbles and a super long, salty finish. 15 grams per liter residual sugar. Disgorged March 2016. Drinking Window: 2016 - 2026."

Dr. Konstantin Frank Finger Lakes Pinot Noir 2016

(2/2019) "The pinot noir vines for this bottling include some of the oldest in the country, planted in 1957. In 2016, they produced a woodsy, brambly pinot, the crunchy wild-strawberry flavors scented with a hint of tobacco. It's lean and light, with a composure and a tart freshness that would pair well with smoked trout."

Boundary Breaks "239" Finger Lakes Dry Riesling 2017

92 Wine Advocate
(2/28/2019) "The 2017 Dry Riesling No. 239, made by Kelby Russell at Red Newt, comes in with eight grams of residual sugar, 7.3 of acidity and 12.3% alcohol. The winery says that the goal here is to harvest at an "unusually high degree of ripeness and then ferment the wine dry," like a German Spätlese Trocken. Clean and transparent, this is pretty gorgeous. The first claim to fame is that ripeness-it seems surprisingly rich and fruity. It then adds a hint of sugar on the end. I was thinking: "Whaaaat? Isn't this the Dry Riesling?" The hammer then comes down and the acidity takes this wine over. It balances the fruit and eviscerates the sugar. As it airs and warms, this becomes simply gripping, typically seeming like a big-time wine with a small-time price. A super bargain, this looks like the best I've seen in the brand so far (and perhaps the best table wine I've seen from Boundary Breaks). It likely will age well too, although it does have that to prove in the cellar. There were 2,500 cases produced. Drink Date: 2019 - 2032."

Dr. Konstantin Frank Finger Lakes Semi Dry Riesling 2016

90 Our Score
90 Wine Advocate
(10/31/2017) "The 2016 Semi-Dry Riesling comes in with 11.5% alcohol, 25 grams per liter of residual sugar and 7.3 grams of total acidity. Sourced from Seneca Lake, this Semi-Dry is pretty terrific this year (and in many others). Full in the mouth, it finishes with a somewhat sweet edge but the underlying acidity cuts the sugar nicely. The finish lingers, with acidity, sugar and fruit well balanced. As it warms it leans more to the sex appeal side of the ledger but the juicy finish also has a burst of acidity that manages to hold the sugar in check. At the price point this is a can't-miss bargain. It should age rather well, too. The sugar will no doubt fade a bit in time.Drink Date 2017 - 2026."

Hermann Wiemer Seneca Lake Dry Riesling 2016

91 Our Score
93 Wine & Spirits

(4/27/2018) "The 2016 Dry Riesling still has nine grams per liter of residual sugar, but this is the Finger Lakes, meaning it still shows dry-but it is fruity and nowhere near austere. Sourced roughly evenly from the winery's key terroirs of HJW, Josef and Magdalena (a little heavier on the HJW), this is round, ripe and delicious, with classic flavors and aromas and just a touch of sugar on the end. It's a terrific 'everyday' Riesling in price, but in quality it easily exceeds that description. The sugary nuances will blow off as this ages, and it will begin to seem drier. Indeed, I recorked it and retasted it some six hours later. The fruity burst was more moderate, and it was respectably dry, although clearly less so in perception than the Dry Reserve or the Riesling Bio. The next day, it was far more gripping, showing its structure as well as its concentration and personality. As it began to seem drier, it showed more tension too. This is by no means the best of Wiemer's Rieslings this issue, but it is quite possibly the best bargain. Everyone will like it, and it will age well too. Drink Date 2018 - 2028."
