Mas Mudigliza "Cauda Louis" Cotes Catalenes Blanc 2016

92 Our Score
(3/2019) Vigneron Dimitri Glipa grows grapes at his Mas Mudigliza estate in the high elevation foothills of the Pyrenees. One of our favorite brokers, Thomas Calder, discovered this very special property and began exporting to smart buyers in the US not that long ago. Mas Mudigliza has gained quite a reputation amongst super wine geeks, a group we proudly associate ourselves with. This wine blends 70% Grenache Gris (not blanc or noir, but the pink-ish hued "Gris"), with 30% Macabeo (aka Viura in Spain's Rioja) to produce a completely viscous and densely concentrated white wine that is plump, but with searing minerality. With just a hint of new oak flavor, complex notes of anise, pine, lime, pear, nectarine, cherry and salty, jagged silver rocks combine to produce a totally singular white wine experience. Drinkable now and over the next 10 years, this wine is magical, reminding us of Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc crossed with a great White Bordeaux, for a fantastically low price.

Chateau Fontanes Pic Saint-Loup 2015

90+ Our Score
91 Wine Advocate
(4/28/2017) "The traditional 2015 Pic St Loup from Domaine Fontanes is a beauty! Coming from high density plantings (all massal selection) and aged in foudre, it offers lots of peppery herbs, black fruits and garrigue in a supple, textured, pure style. This is a bistro styled drinker, yet with oomph, as well as the classic elegance of the Pic Saint Loup appellation. Count me as a fan!"
