Nadler Carnuntum Gruner Veltliner 2017 1.0 LT

89+ Our Score
(1/2019) Third-generation winegrower Robert Nadler has overseen his family estate for the past 22 years. We've come upon his wines more recently, and they've quickly become a perennial Vin Chicago favorite. Lemon, pear, melon and white grapefruit are complemented by subtle notes of radish, white pepper and a refreshing salty white rock minerality. Best of all, this tasty Grüner comes in a 1.0 liter bottle - 33% more wine to love!

Rainer Wess "Krems" Kremstal Riesling 2016

89 Our Score
(11/2018) Coming from Austria's Kremstal region, this dry Riesling offers up intense aromatic notes of stone fruit, honey, flowers and spice. If blind tasted, it would not be unusual to confuse this one with the aromatic intensity of a Gewurztraminer. This fruit forward and aromatic Riesling is a great choice for spicy foods like Thai or Indian cuisine.

Stadt Krems Kremstal Gruner Veltliner 2017

89 Wine Enthusiast
(7/1/2018) "Ripe yellow pear on the nose is also apparent on the very easy light juicy palate. The slightly dilute palate benefits from tangy citrus on the dry finish."

Rainer Wess Niederosterreich Gruner Veltliner 2016

89 Our Score
(10/2018) This tasty Gru-V from Rainer Wess sings of fresh peach and apricot with classic notes of white pepper and clean minerality. The palate is fleshy and round with a bit of extra baby fat that will stand up to roast chicken or pork. The finish is long and delicious. Typical retail on this great value is $17. As usual, we're a few bucks less!

(8/2019) "Limpid onion skin. Bright and sharply focused on the nose, displaying fresh strawberry, citrus pith and floral scents and a hint of minerality. Nigl "Freiheit" Niederosterreich Gruner Veltliner 2017

92 Wine Spectator
(1/17/2019) "The 2016 Nigl bottling of this vibrant white was included in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2018. Martin Nigl, who owns the winery with his family and is the winemaker, blends Grüner grapes from four different parcels in Kremstal. He practices sustainable farming, never using pesticides, which helps bring out vitality in the plants. The wine is spontaneously fermented in stainless-steel tanks, allowing the terroir to shine through. An exuberant style, gaining a fizzy impression from the minerality. The core expresses peach, tarragon and cardamom details, but the savoriness takes the front seat. Very well-built, with focused acidity and a vivid structure. Echoing finish. Drink now through 2027."

Wimmer-Czerny "Fumberg" Gruner Veltliner 2017

93 Wine Advocate
(12/28/2018) "Hans Czerny's 2017 Grüner Veltliner Fumberg is a picture book "GV" from the Wagram. The subtle bouquet is bright, fine and fresh but also ripe and just beautifully balanced, with a very delicate and fresh, even flinty-scented aroma. Highly delicate and elegant on the palate, this is a stimulating, piquant and salty Veltliner with both tension and finesse. It is also stimulatingly pure and salty in the finish. For many, many years this has been one of my favorite Grooners in all Austria because it is so delicate, like almost no other wine from this variety. If you are looking for the finest Veltliners of the 2017 vintage, Czerny's highly delicious, biodynamic 2017 Fumberg should be one of your choices. Tasted in Vienna, September 2018. Drink Date 2018 - 2033."

91 Wine Advocate
(8/31/2017) "The 2015 Steiner Kogl 1OTW Gruner Veltliner has golden-yellow color and opens with a deep, clear, aromatic, fresh and spicy/flinty bouquet of ripe fruits. Full-Bodied, rich and elegant on the palate, with a fresh and mineral appearance and piquant acidity, this is a powerful, lush and very aromatic Gruner Veltliner with dense and concentrated yellow fleshed stone fruit, fine tannins and 13.5% alcohol. Crystalline and round. Drink Date 2020 - 2030."

Barbara Ohlzelt "Gruner Leader" Kamptal Gruner Veltliner 2017

90 Our Score
(9/2018) Barbara Ohlzelt's entry-level Gruner is a fascinating glimpse into her style of winemaking. It is classic Gruner but in a very quiet, understated package. Look for notes of snap peas and crunchy cucumbers, followed by a nice salted lime kick. There is a lot of energy in this bottle, and as always, we are happy to have Gruner in a liter bottle!

Barbara Ohlzelt "Kellerweingarten" Kamptal Gruner Veltliner 2017

91 Our Score
(5/2019) A winemaker known for favoring focus and intensity, Barbara Ohlzelt is producing some of the best Kamptal Gruner Veltliner available at this price. Pear, green apple, lime zest and pepper complement the generous structure indicative of Gruner of this quality. Fresh and delicious now but has enough acidity to show well over the next few years!
