Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

94 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. Drink Date: 2016 - 2031."

(6/2017) "Great interplay of creaminess and raciness, and there's the classic cassis note of this site with a great mineral freshness. Very long and pure. Try to live clean, take regular exercise and hope you'll be around when it's fully mature."

Domaine Vincent Paris "La Geynale" Cornas 2013

93 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
91+ Wine Advocate
(11/18/2015) "As normal, the 2013 Cornas la Geynale is the most structured, tannic and age-worthy in the lineup. Coming from the Geynale and Reynard lieux-dits, and fermented with 100% whole clusters, it spent 18 months all in two- to eight-year-old barrels. Its inky purple, mostly opaque color gives way to masculine (classic Cornas!) notes of crushed rocks, charcoal, wood smoke and plums. Big, medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and with plenty of tannin, it needs 2-4 years of cellaring and will drink well for a decade after that."

Cayuse "God Only Knows" Armada Vineyard Walla Walla Valley Grenache 2013

94 Wine Advocate
(6/2016) "Grenache seemed to handle the heat nicely in 2013 and the 2013 Grenache God Only Knows Armada Vineyard offers a gorgeous, rich, almost masculine style (especially when it's tasted next to the No Girls Grenache) in its dark fruits, crushed herbs, mineral and leather scented profile. Even showing a touch of game with time in the glass, this beauty has fine tannin, plenty of fruit and a great finish, all suggesting it will drink nicely for another decade."

Bollinger "La Grande Annee" Brut Champagne 2007

94+ Wine Advocate

94 Jeb Dunnuck
(3/15/2018) "I loved the 2007 La Grande Annee, which is based on 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. Over 90% of this cuvee was sourced from Grand Cru sites, with the balance from Premier Cru villages. Vinified all in older barrels and aged 6 years in bottle on lees, it boasts a deep, rich, creamy style as well as full-bodied notes of ripe stone fruits, wood smoke, and spice. It has vibrant acidity, impressive length, and notable purity, all making for a classy, impressive Champagne that will keep for 10-15 years."

Argot "Borrowed Jewels" Sugarloaf Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Winery price is $125!
94 Jeb Dunnuck
(1/31/2019) "More expensive and from a great hillside terroir of rock soils in the southern part of the valley, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Sugarloaf Vineyard offers a more rounded, supple, sexy style comparted to the more focused Starstruck releases. Plums, cassis, eucalyptus, incense, and cedar notes all emerge from this ripe, powerful sexy 2015 that shows the style of the vintage nicely. This fruit loaded effort is going to take 3-4 years to shed some baby fat but will drink beautifully for two decades. Drinking window: 2022 - 2042."

Herman Story Wines "Bolt Cutter" California Red 2015

93 Our Score
(12/2017) We really dig the big flavors of Herman Story wines and wish he made more Cabernet-based wines like this "Bolt Cutter" blend of 42% Cabernet, 32% Petit Verdot and 26% Syrah - sourced from some pretty famous vineyards, including Shadow Canyon and White Hawk. We could tell you all about the powerful mouthfeel and the super dense fruit flavors, but these notes from proprietor Russell P. From if more intriguing than anything we could ever write... "If Merle Haggard and Neil Young had ever released that metal record it would be playing on this train as it blew through the California deserts, carrying it's payload of blackberrycola sorbet on a quest for the coast: granite talus, smoked black cherry, flame kissed gingerbread village, crispy blueberry sage handpie, road tar, perfect powerchords and lightning struck oxen." We're not exactly sure what that means, but the wine is really freaking delicious. Drink now and over the next 4-5 years. For best results, decant an hour or two prior to serving.

Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Eiswein 2011

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $149.99!
Winemaker's Notes
92 Wine Advocate
(2/2013) "'You with your (expletive) Eiswein!' Gabi told me when we left these grapes hanging," relates Donnhoff, and in fact his 2011 Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Eiswein was another of those that threatened to disrupt the Christmas holidays, and when that didn't happen threatened yet worse. Helmut and Gabi Donnhoff left for Singapore and Cornelius for the U.S. "My daughter Christina was at home," Donnhoff continues, "academically astute, loves wine, but has no idea about viticulture. On January 17, the telephone rings. 'Mama, it's going to get cold tonight. And not just a little: minus 10 (14o F.). What should I do?!' So we set-up a three-way Skype connection, helped organized everything with the pickers, monitored the situation hour-by-hour, and walked Christina through the entire cellar process." I wish I could after all that say we have here 250 liters of truly great Donnhoff Eiswein, but the 2011 vintage itself is surely responsible for any weaknesses, not the unorthodox process by which picking and pressing were managed, let alone Christina, thanks to whom the world is enriched by an amazing if slightly awkward young wine. Musk and leather; prickly radish and lemon rind; caramel apple and honey; passion fruit and mango inform an intense aromatic as well as ultra-concentrated palate performance. Unlike with so many other 2011s rendered from frozen grapes in early 2012, one can't complain here about a lack of Eiswein-like acidity - but it takes-on a somewhat detached, slightly metallic and strident edge. Perhaps this extreme wine's caramelized and animal aspects will reconcile themselves in time with its sharp citricity and radish-like sizzle, but the ways of Eiswein in the bottle are capricious."
