Domaine Vincent Paris "La Geynale" Cornas 2013

93 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
91+ Wine Advocate
(11/18/2015) "As normal, the 2013 Cornas la Geynale is the most structured, tannic and age-worthy in the lineup. Coming from the Geynale and Reynard lieux-dits, and fermented with 100% whole clusters, it spent 18 months all in two- to eight-year-old barrels. Its inky purple, mostly opaque color gives way to masculine (classic Cornas!) notes of crushed rocks, charcoal, wood smoke and plums. Big, medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and with plenty of tannin, it needs 2-4 years of cellaring and will drink well for a decade after that."

Chateau Saint Cosme Condrieu 2016

93 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(5/2018) "Light green-hued yellow. Powerful, mineral-accented orchard and pit fruits on the nose, joined by a suave floral nuance as the wine stretches out. Sappy, penetrating and seamless in texture, offering vibrant tangerine, Anjou pear and white peach flavors and a sneaky hint of tarragon. Shows excellent focus and nervy, mineral cut on the finish, which lingers with outstanding tenacity. Drinking Window: 2019 - 2023."

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Saint-Joseph Rouge 2014

94 Our Score
94 Wine Spectator
(10/31/2017) "Fresh in feel, with light bay leaf, pepper and dried violet notes leading a core of gently steeped plum and bitter cherry fruit. The long finish is inlaid with a smoldering alder detail. Very refined, with ample reserve for cellaring. Drink now through 2026."

Domaine Rosiers "Cuvee Besset" Cote Rotie 2014

94+ Our Score
(10/2017) A delicious expression of northern Rhone Syrah, the 2014 Cuvée Besset offers intoxicating floral aromas and deep flavors of smoke, olive and red fruits. Soft, elegant and accessible, with very impressive structure. Considering the multitude of $100+ Cote Rotie bottlings, this is a very fair price.

Domaine Grand Veneur "Les Origines" Chateauneuf du Pape 2016

94-96+ Jeb Dunnuck
(10/2017) "Possibly the finest vintage of this cuvée to date, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Origines (50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and the balance Syrah) offers a full-bodied, unctuous, yet thrillingly pure style in its black raspberry, cassis, licorice and spice aromas and flavors. It has a smoking good mid-palate, building, ripe tannin and a huge finish."

Domaine Auguste Clape Saint Peray Blanc 2016

92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(2/2018) "Pale yellow. Expressive aromas of fresh orchard fruits, melon and white flowers are sharpened by a subtle citrus zest nuance. Sappy and sharply focused on the palate, offering pear nectar and honeydew flavors and a touch of dusty minerality. Finishes with firm mineral cut and strong persistence, leaving a sexy floral note behind. Clape produces a small quantity of Saint-Péray that, in the past, was made entirely from 40+-year-old Marsanne vines planted in a single 0.25-hectare plot. Roussanne, in the form of mostly younger vines, has been steadily introduced into the blend following the 2014 purchase of another vineyard, to the point that it now makes up about 20% of the wine. The Clape Saint-Péray is fermented in concrete and large neutral oak barrels before resting in stainless steel tanks for eight or nine months before bottling. It goes through malolactic fermentation because, as Pierre Clape told me, they "want the wine to be shapely, not sharp. 80% Marsanne, 20% Roussanne"

Domaine de la Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2017

(8/31/2018) "A blend of 40% Grenache Blanc, 30% Clairette and 30% Roussanne, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc was bottled just a month before my visit. The Clairette and Roussanne mature in demi-muids, which gives this wine a round, expansive mouthfeel and rich texture. The ripe tangerine flavors gain focus on the long finish, picking up hints of citrus zest and brine, leaving behind a mouthwatering lasting sensation of freshness. Drink Date: 2018 - 2022."

92 Our Score
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(3/2014) "Inky ruby. Deeply pitched dark fruit liqueur, olive and smoky Indian spice aromas are brightened by a zesty mineral quality. Palate-coating blackberry and blueberry flavors pick up an exotic floral nuance with air and are enlivened by juicy acidity. Finishes smooth, broad and long, with subtle vanilla and cola notes and strong mineral cut. There's lots going on here now but I'll bet that a few more years of patience will be rewarded." 92/100 - Wine Spectator. (2/2012) "A ripe, muscular, mouthfilling style, with loads of blackberry, fig and boysenberry pâte de fruit flavors backed by juicy briar, sweet spice and dark melted licorice snap notes. This has ample toast, but very solid fruit at the core. Best from 2013 through 2018. 500 cases made."

Domaine Cedric Parpette "Montmain" Cote-Rotie 2017

94-95 Our Score
(4/2019) Montmain is a tiny lieu-dit in the Cote Brune section of Cote-Rotie owned by grower Cedric Parpette. Since the mid-1980s, when Cedric's father-in-law purchased the vineyard, all of the fruit had been sold to negociants - primarily Chapoutier and Guigal. These prized grapes were so good that some of them went into Guigal's famous "La Turque," a wine that sells for over $400! Lucky for us, Cedric took over in 2003 and began holding back some grapes to make his own wine. This classic, jaw-dropping Northern Rhone Syrah has a deep, dark color and sings of bacon fat, smoked meat, green olives, black pepper and violets. The palate is elegant and velvety, with flavors of dark berries, granitic earth and chalky tannins. Cote-Rotie at this price is a rarity. Cote-Rotie of this quality at this price is unheard of. This is a STUNNING bottle of wine.

Domaine Auguste Clape Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(2/2018) "Opaque ruby. Spice-accented aromas of black raspberry, violet and smoky minerals, plus a hint of allspice in the background. Concentrated yet lithe and precise, offering spice-tinged dark berry flavors and a bracing jolt of acidity that adds focus and back-end cut. Fleshes out slowly with air and shows very good clarity and appealing sweetness on a long, gently tannic finish."
