Dominio Basconcillos "Vigna Magna" Ribera del Duero 2014

94 Wine Spectator
(10/15/2018) "This modern red shows a broad, plush texture backed by well-integrated tannins and balsamic acidity. Currant and plum pudding flavors mingle with espresso, licorice and mineral notes, which give way to a finish scented with floral and chocolate accents. Drink now through 2028. 300 cases made."

Bodegas Emilio Moro "Malleolus" Ribera del Duero 2014

93 Wine Advocate
(2/28/2017) "The 2014 Malleolus is sourced from vines ranging between 25 and 75 years of age, fermented in stainless steel vats with their own selected yeasts, followed by an élevage of 18 months in used French oak barriques. This is just bottled, yet the wine feels very harmonious, and in 2014 it seems to combine power with good freshness. It's a good expression of the Emilio Moro style, generous wines that are generously oaked and hedonistic, lush and ripe, nicely balanced by the character of the year. This has to be one of the finest Malleolus vintages so far. 60,000 bottles produced."

Goyo Garcia "Joven Vinas Viejas" Ribera del Duero 2016

91 Our Score
(2/2018) The "Joven de Vinas Viejas" is a recent addition to Goyo Garcia's line. "Joven" in this designation means young or fresh, and that is precisely what this wine embodies. It just screams freshness! The fact that this cuvee also comes from some serious old vines doesn't hurt one bit, and lends plenty of depth and structure to this beautiful, vibrant rendition of Tempranillo. Many of the vines he works with are over 80 years old. The fruit is super tart and snappy, with a sharp edgy quality that plays well with the high acid. Think freshly pulled blackberries from the bush. The fresh berries are backed with notes of lightly dried leather, baked clay, wild herbs and solid core of black rock minerality, all wrapped in a rather lithe package. Goyo's wines are a revelation, offering an interpretation of the region that harkens back to a simpler bygone time.

Vigna Magna "6 Meses" Ribera del Duero 2016

91 Our Score
(4/2019) We are a more-than-solid 91 points on this 100% Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo) from a 125 acre organically farmed vineyard in the northernmost extreme of the region. We were very tempted to award it 92. Six months aging in French oak provides initial aromas of vanilla, oak and spicy cherry. There is an incredible balance of ripe fruit, oak, smoke and spice - and after a few swirls, it gains even more complexity. A wonderfully layered, mouthfilling and enjoyable wine with soft tannins on the finish.

Bodegas Cepa 21 "Hito" Ribera del Duero 2017

90 Our Score
(7/2019) From the family behind the great Ribera producer, Emilio Moro, Cepa 21 was launched nearly 20 years ago with a vision for a modern, fresher expression of the region. With a short, hot growing season and yields limited by spring frosts, the 2017 installment of their entry-level "Hito" offers excellent intensity. With eight months in seasoned oak, the depth of dark fruit and minerality take center stage here, with notes of black cherry, black currant, blackberry, graphite and smokey loam. We recommend an hour of decanting, and plenty of flank steak. Very delicious stuff here. Do not underestimate this wine!

Bodegas Aster Ribera del Duero Crianza 2012

91 Our Score
(12/2017) La Rioja Alta is one of the great producers in Rioja. Bodegas Aster is their estate in Ribera del Duero. While it is a Crianza, matured for one year in barrel, the focus here is on the pure black cherry of the Tempranillo grape. All about the fruit, the 2015 Aster is clean and bright, medium-to-full in body and softly textured with an ever so slight earth and mild vanilla character. A beautiful dry red to pair with red meat and stews. Think pot roast.
