(10/2020) This is the debut vintage of an unofficial "2nd Wine" from Chateau Ormes de Pez's younger vines in Saint-Estephe - which is operated by the Cazes family, famed for their Chateau Lynch-Bages. Less "showy" than many 2015 Left-Bank Bordeaux, you're greeted with reticent black cherry and smoky black currant notes, which intertwine with leather and iron filings. Following the wine for three nights, we were joyous when the wine blossomed an ample, warm-hearted, black raspberry compote over its tense underlying personality, putting the wine over the top for us. The structure sounds intimidating, but is rather fine-grained and medium-bodied. This wine does not require cellaring, but will be most rewarding to those who enjoy their claret properly decanted at the dinner table with red meat.
