Robert Mondavi "To Kalon Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

95 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve To Kalon is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep ruby/purple-colored, notes of sweet crème de cassis, blackberry, charcoal and toast are present in the subtle but intense aromatics. The wine is full-bodied and classically crafted, building incrementally on the palate and displaying full-bodied richness, sweet tannin, and a potential to age for 25-30 + years. This is a beauty. Drink Date 2016 - 2048."

O'Shaughnessy Mt Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

96 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
96 Wine Advocate
(12/2016) "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and usually my favorite from Betty O'Shaughnessy. She produces just under 1,200 cases of this wine, which has the classic blueberry, blackberry and acacia flower nose that comes from the high elevations of this wild and backward mountain area in southern Napa Valley. Dense bluish/purple to the rim, with loads of blueberries on the palate, big-time glycerin, sweet tannin, low acidity and a long, layered finish, this is terrific wine to drink now and over the next 20-25 years. Drink Date 2016 - 2041."

Roserock "Zephirine" Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir 2015

98 James Suckling
(11/1/2017) "Incredible aromas of chamomile, hibiscus, fruit tea, lavender, dried strawberries, cherries, lemons and light white chocolate. Medium-bodied but with crazily formed tannins that are like velvety strings and are surrounded by vivacious acidity. A phenomenal, awe-inspiring finish. An indisputably unique wine. Drink from 2020."

Cayuse "En Cerise" Walla Walla Valley Syrah 2016

99 Jeb Dunnuck
(4/11/2019) "The 2016 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard is another winner (best to date?), showing an incredibly bloody, iron quality as well as beautiful purity in its bright cherry, blackberries, violets, pork fat, and acacia flower aromas and flavors. Seamless, silky, gorgeous, and perfectly balanced, it's another heavenly wine from Baron that's going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and cruise for 10-15."

Cayuse "Cailloux Vineyard" Walla Walla Valley Syrah 2016

98 Jeb Dunnuck
(4/11/2019) "The 2016 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard checks in as 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier that was fermented with roughly 70-80% stems and brought up in 15% new demi-muids and foudre. This beauty has incredible elegance and purity as well as full-bodied richness, complex notes of blackberry, cherries, stone hearth, decayed flowers, and salted meats, and a savory style that's going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for 15 years or more."

Raymond "Generations" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

98 Wine Advocate
(10/31/2017) "The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Generations is deep garnet-purple in color with an earthy, dried herbs and scorched earth-scented nose over a core of blackberry pie and cassis with Indian spices and menthol. Full-bodied, concentrated and rich in the mouth, with firm, grainy tannins and a savory/earthy character, it finishes long with a mineral hint. Drink Date: 2020 - 2040."

Herman Story Wines "Larner Vineyard" Ballard Canyon Red 2014

96 Jeb Dunnuck
(8/10/2017) "From a site in Ballard Canyon (Santa Barbara County) and made from 52% Syrah and 48% Grenache, the 2014 Larner is another inky colored effort that reveal a fresh, lively perfume of flowers, blackberries, smoked meats and spice. Full-bodied, ethereally textured and seamless, with no hard edges and a seamless texture, it's another blockbuster from Russell that I'd be thrilled to drink anytime over the coming 4-6 years."

Bodegas El Nido "El Nido" Jumilla 2015

95 Wine Advocate
(12/29/2017) "Following the style of the Clio from the same vintage, the 2015 El Nido is a powerful, ripe and concentrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Monastrell aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 23 months. It's bottled with 16% alcohol, not a shy wine but not one that shows heat, as it keeps the balance in an XL way. It feels concentrated, powerful and young, but the oak is surprisingly more integrated than in the 2014. As it happens with many wines, this is not for everybody, as it has a marked style, but for those who like this profile, this could very well be the finest vintage of El Nido to date. It can be had with powerful food, but it should be better with a few years in bottle. 5,500 bottles were filled in September 2017. Drink Date: 2019 - 2030."

Forman Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

96 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(3/2018) "The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is dense, pliant and wonderfully expressive. Ric Forman's wines are always on the restrained side, but the 2015 packs a good bit of punch. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, sage, mint, and rose petal overtones all add to the wine's precision and nuance. In 2015, Forman took in fruit from Thorevilos, which he co-manages with David Abreu, but ultimately decided to add that juice to the Cabernet Sauvignon rather than bottle it separately. Dollops of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec round out the blend. This is one of the classiest wines of the vintage. Drink 2022 - 2040."

L'Aventure "Estate Cuvee" Paso Robles Red Blend 2016

99 Jeb Dunnuck
(11/29/2018) "A wine that flirts with perfection is the 2016 Estate Cuvee, which is 52% Syrah, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Petit Verdot, all of which spent 15 months in new French oak. Deep ruby/purple-colored, with a masculine bouquet of creme de cassis, graphite, liquid rock-like minerality, and lead pencil shavings, it reminds me of a top 2010 Pomerol with its opulence, power, and purity. Hitting the palate with full body, a layered, seamless, multi-dimensional texture, and present yet polished tannins, this beauty is one of the finest examples of this cuvee yet produced. Give bottles 2-3 years and it will keep for 15+."

Price is very deep purple-black in color and features vibrant creme de cassis, warm plums, blueberry pie and dark chocolate notes with hints of menthol, rose hip tea, yeast extract and lavender. The palate is full-bodied with a taut line of super ripe, grainy tannins and wonderful freshness supporting the muscular fruit, finishing long and minerally. 125 cases produced. Drink 2021 - 2040."

L'Aventure "Cote a Cote" Paso Robles Red Blend 2016

98 Jeb Dunnuck
(11/29/2018) "The 2016 Cote a Cote is blockbuster and one of the wines of the vintage. A blend of 55% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, and the rest Syrah, brought up in a mix of 30% new French oak, 28% once used barrels, and the rest in amphora and concrete tanks, it offers a heavenly perfume of blueberries, blackberries, crushed violets, wild strawberries, ground pepper, and spring flowers. About as pure and seamless as it gets, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a multi-dimensional texture, no hard edges, and a huge finish. I finished my note on this wine with "Killer stuff!" You can drink this today or cellar it for 10-15 years."

Caprili "AdAlberto" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2012

94 Wine Enthusiast
95 Wine Spectator
95+ Vinous, Ian D'Agata
(4/2018) "Good full ruby-red. Smoky black cherry, violet and herbs on the nose, along with strong licorice and tobacco notes. Dense, plush and concentrated, but showing excellent cut and vinosity to the savory dark fruit, herb and tobacco flavors. Not especially blessed with easygoing sweetness of fruit, this fine-grained wine communicates a strong impression of extract and serious but polished tannins for real aging potential. This Riserva could not be any more different from owner Giacomo Bartolommei's also beautiful 2013 Brunello (for comparison's sake, the 2012 Riserva is both deeper and broader, but less juicy and fruity), and both wines will have hordes of fans. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2035."

(1/31/2019) "While the 2016 Ontogeny Red Wine might be the least expensive wine in the lineup, it's unquestionably at the same quality level as the top tier releases. Boasting a saturated purple color and sensational notes of plums, currants, chocolate, and graphite, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, incredible opulence and decadent, no hard edges and perfect overall balance. Egly Ouriet "V.P." Grand Cru Champagne NV 2 2

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(8/2016) "One of the many highlights in this range, the NV Extra Brut Grand Cru V.P. (Vieillissement Prolongé) bristles with energy from start to finish. Two important vintages (2008 and 2006) come together in this release. Lemon oil, chamomile, pear, hazelnut, acacia and wild flowers open up in the glass, but it is the wine's interplay of power and freshness that is totally beguiling. There is so much to like. The current release is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, 60% 2008 and 40% 2006. Disgorged November, 2015. Dosage is 2 grams per liter."

Arnot-Roberts "Fellom Ranch" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(3/2017) "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Fellom Ranch, from a site in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is savory, deep and quite powerful. Dried herbs, sweet red cherry, flowers and mint open up nicely in the glass, but it is the wine's mountain structure and purity that stand out most. Even so, there is more than enough to the fruit to play off the tannins. All three 2014 Cabernets are superb, but the Fellom has perhaps just a bit more pedigree and complexity than the Clajeux and Montecillo. Drink 2022 - 2034."

Deep, rich, unctuous and still structured, with masses of tannin, it's a beast of a wine, yet stays impeccably balanced, pure and clean. It's going to need 4-5 years of cellaring."

Hidden Ridge Vineyard "55% Slope" Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

97+ Wine Advocate
(3/3/2016) "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 55% Slope comes from the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas Mountains. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a vineyard planted at 1,700 feet. This is a remarkable wine and reminiscent of the great classics from the golden era of the Mayacamas on the Napa side (such as the 1968, 1970, 1973 and 1974) come to mind when tasting this beauty. It is simply loaded. Dense purple in color, the wine has notes of licorice, crème de cassis, Asian plum sauce, cedar wood and earth. Full-bodied, opulent and irresistible already, it is capable (because of the impeccable balance and purity) of aging 20-25 or more years. This is a modern-day classic that could compete with very finest Cabernet-based wines in the world. Drink Date 2016 - 2041."

Quinta do Vale Meao Douro 2013

97 Wine Enthusiast
95 Wine Advocate
(3/2016) "The 2013 Tinto (the Estate, flagship red here) is a blend of 58% Touriga Nacional, 35% Touriga Franca, 5% Tinta Barroca and 2% Tinta Roriz, aged for 18 months in 225-liter Allier barriques (80% new and 20% second use). It comes in at 14% alcohol. Adding a layer of concentration and more power to the Meandro, its sibling reviewed this issue, this has a wonderfully elegant feel, while adding some surprising pop and power to the gripping and lingering finish. Let's not forget the part where it provides wonderful intensity of flavor on the finish. It's just delicious this year, without ever being candied, sweet or obvious. Subtle at times, yet intense and persistent, this perfectly balanced beauty should hold well. It has some things to prove in the cellar, but it should develop well. As time goes on, I'm expanding drinking windows, but let's remain a little on the conservative side. Sourced from vines averaging 45 years in age, there were 2,050 cases produced. Drink 2017-2035."

(2/2018) "The 2015 Larcis Ducasse is just as compelling from bottle as it was from barrel. Rose petal, lavender, spice and mint give it an attractive upper register that melds seamlessly into a core of inky red and purplish fruit. Dense, powerful and overt, the 2015 also has quite a bit of freshness to liven up the flavors. Silky tannins and soft contours add to the wine's racy, sensual personality. The 2015 is going to be virtually impossible to resist in its youth. Drink 2022-2040."

Corliss Estates Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

A superstar from the winemaking team of Andrew Trio and Philippe Melka. It's not often when Stephen Tanzer gives this kind of a review to a Cabernet!
96+ Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
(7/2016) "(Aged in 70% new oak for 28 months; this bottling will be labeled Red Mountain beginning with the 2014 vintage): Bright red-ruby. Extremely primary, pure aromas and flavors of inky cassis, blueberry, licorice and minerals. Tight and high-pitched in the mouth, displaying outstanding depth, energy and minerality but extremely closed in the early going. This huge wine finishes with chewy, late-arriving, toothdusting tannins that will require cellaring, even after the wine is released in the fall of 2018. Corliss has increased its use of tight-grained Saint-Martin barrels in this wine, and it will need a while to absorb the oak. Distinctly cool, even a bit medicinal, for the 2013 vintage, this is likely to be very long-lived. Winemaker Andre Trio told me he added a bit of Petit Verdot 'for back-palate texture and finer-grained tannins.' Drinking window: 2022 - 2034."
