L'Aventure "Estate Cuvee" Paso Robles Red Blend 2016

99 Jeb Dunnuck
(11/29/2018) "A wine that flirts with perfection is the 2016 Estate Cuvee, which is 52% Syrah, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Petit Verdot, all of which spent 15 months in new French oak. Deep ruby/purple-colored, with a masculine bouquet of creme de cassis, graphite, liquid rock-like minerality, and lead pencil shavings, it reminds me of a top 2010 Pomerol with its opulence, power, and purity. Hitting the palate with full body, a layered, seamless, multi-dimensional texture, and present yet polished tannins, this beauty is one of the finest examples of this cuvee yet produced. Give bottles 2-3 years and it will keep for 15+."

Oakville Winery Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

93 Our Score
(2/2019) This delicious estate-grown Oakville Cabernet comes from an organically farmed vineyard adjacent to Opus One! Rich and full of flashy, fleshy flavors, this high-impact Cab spent 24 months in oak, 50% of which was new French barrels. Black fruit and cocoa flavors are bolstered by nuances of vanilla scented toast and framed by medium-plus tannins, medium acidity and a full, long finish. Given its quality, the premium address of the vineyard and its reasonable price, this is sure to please.

(11/30/2018) "This throws a plume of white pepper and violet notes out first, followed by a racy, tightly focused beam of bitter cherry, damson plum and red currant coulis flavors. Shows terrific cut through the finish due to a mouthwatering iron accent. A beauty that will live a long life. Best from 2020 through 2035. 625 cases made."

Trefethen Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

This dense, delicious estate-grown Napa Valley Cab hits right in the sweet spot!
95 Wine Enthusiast
94 Decanter
(2/21/2018) "Lack of rain combined with a warm summer resulted in one of the earliest harvests this estate has seen, starting September 5. Smaller grapes than usual made this a very structured, concentrated wine, with plenty of tannin, savoury and spicy flavours, alongside aromas of bay leaves. The blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, and 4% Malbec - aged for 18 months in a mix of French, American and Hungarian oak - marks a new level of quality. Drinking Window 2018 - 2032."

Talley Vineyards "Rincon Vineyard" Arroyo Grande Valley Chardonnay 2016

95 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(8/2018) "(21% new French oak) Pale yellow-gold. Ripe melon, pear nectar, tangerine and toasty lees on the deeply perfumed nose, complicated by a mineral flourish that adds focus and lift. Silky and seamless in the mouth, offering mineral-laced, impressively concentrated citrus and orchard fruit flavors that pick up subtle fennel and vanilla notes with aeration. Smoothly blends richness and delicacy and closes with strong, mineral-driven persistence and a sneaky floral quality. I really like the interplay of power and delicacy here. (2/2019) Checking in at 16%, the Ilatium "Campo Leon" Amarone is a huge wine! Powerfully concentrated, it delivers flavors of smoky dark black fruits and coffee along with hints of new French and American oak. Domaine de la Cote de l'Ange Chateauneuf du Pape 2015

93 Wine Advocate
(10/31/2017) "Another fine effort in this very good vintage is Domaine de la Cote de l'Ange's 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape. A traditional blend of 70% Grenache, with the balance split between Syrah and Mourvedre, it spent time in both wooden foudres and cuves beton (concrete vats). Ample spice combines with richly tannic, dark, plummy fruit in this handsome, full-bodied wine. Drink Date: 2020 - 2030."

R. Lopez de Heredia "Vina Tondonia" Reserva Rioja 2006

95 Wine Advocate
(2/28/2018) "The red flagship 2006 Vina Tondonia Reserva was inspired by the vineyards of the Medoc but produced with local grapes, 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho, 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo, which achieved 13% alcohol in 2006. It always matures in used American oak barriques for some six years. The oldest of all the reds I tasted, it was also the one with more freshness, which speaks to the quality of the vineyard. Dunham Cellars "Trutina" Columbia Valley Proprietary Red 2015

Dunham is back at Vin Chicago! Once again, their Cabernet-based "Trutina" blend is a real smile-inducing beauty. Deep, rich, silky and a whole lot of fun.
93 Jeb Dunnuck
(4/5/2018) "The 2015 Trutina from Dunham is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 10% Malbec, and the rest Cabernet Franc. It's another beautiful wine from this estate that over-delivers. Gorgeous crème de cassis, black raspberry, vanilla bean, and Asian spice notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, seamless, elegant beauty that has real class. While it's not a blockbuster, it just glides across the palate, has notable purity of fruit, and a great finish, all making it a terrific value, even at the roughly $30 price point. Antonio Vallana Bocca 2010

An enticing Nebbiolo-based red from the obscure Boca region of Alto Piemonte!
93 Wine Enthusiast
93 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(4/2016) "The 2010 Boca is one of the most powerful wines in this lineup. Bold, racy and expressive, but in a classic, mid-weight style, the 2010 delivers superb flavor intensity and exceptional balance. Vespolina and Uva Rara add multiple shades of nuance to the Nebbiolo-inflected flavors. Cranberry, orange peel, mint and dried flowers are all nicely delineated throughout. I especially like the sense of energy here. Vallana's 2010 Boca is a winner. And the price? Absurdly low for this level of quality. Firm tannins and a long finish suggest the 2010 will drink well for some time to come. This is a terrific showing."

Comando G "Las Bruja de Rozas" Vinos de Madrid 2016

93 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(12/28/2018) "The first wine to be released from what is surely their finest vintage to date was the 2016 La Bruja de Rozas, a blend from different plots in the village of Las Rozas de Puerto Real in the province of Madrid. I first had it at a restaurant and was simply blown away and ran to buy a few cases for my cellar. This is ethereal, weightless but powerful, intense, transparent, with beautiful aromatics and a silky texture, with the grainy minerality of the granite soils. It's long, pure, available and affordable. It has to be one of the best value wines found in Spain today. Drinkable, in fact, gulpable today, but with the potential to develop in bottle. Bravo, bravo and bravo!."

(2/14/2019) "I always love this Chardonnay from winemaker Jeffrey Patterson. The 2015 Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains comes from an estate just south of Mount Eden that was purchased by Jeffrey in 2007. This wine is always a mix of both estates (Domaine Eden and Mount Eden) and also gets a touch of purchased fruit. The 2015 has wonderful freshness and purity, with vibrant white flowers and caramelized citrus, medium body, lots of salinity, and a pure, clean, age-worthy style. Lemelson "Cuvee X" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2015

90-91 Our Score
(12/2018) Eric Lemelson has been bottling distinctive Oregon Pinot Noir since the 1999 vintage. We've been fans since the wines first came to Chicago a couple years later. "Cuvee X" is a limited production bottling blended from Eric's certified organic vineyards. While Eric typically ages his Pinot in barrel for 15 months, he put the Cuvee X in tank after only seven months. Additionally, the barrels he selected for this 400 case cuvee were primarily second-year, further reducing the oak impact and allowing the "rustic/earthy elements of this extraordinary vintage" to shine through. The result is a vibrant wine with fresh, deeply flavorful red fruit notes, bright red earth tones and a soft, lifted finish. This is a great Oregon Pinot Noir, drinkable now, at a super friendly price. (Oregon)

93 Wine Advocate
(9/22/2018) "The 2017 Brouilly Reverdon bursts from the glass with lovely aromas of blackberries, cassis, plums and potpourri. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, bright and juicy, with sweeter fruit than the 2016 rendition but a shared sense of crunchiness and vivacity. (2/2019) This richly textured, wonderfully balanced Oregon Chardonnay from winemaker Adam Smith is laden with orchard and stone fruit and is a great example of the highly appealing style of Oregon Chardonnay. It also addresses our main (really our only) gripe with Oregon Pinot which is their tendency to have high prices. At $18.99 per bottle, this hits right in the sweet spot. Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico 2016

Another beauty from Chianti's amazing 2016 vintage!
90+ Wine Advocate
92 James Suckling
91 Decanter
(2/11/2018) "Purchased as a hunting retreat by Raffaello Stianti in 1966, Castello di Volpaia encompasses an 11th century fortified village in Radda-in-Chianti. Today the estate includes 43ha of vineyards reaching up to 600 metres. For this wine, Merlot is included to make it more approachable, but it still has the potential to age. Red berries and earth notes reveal themselves slowly, with perfumed violet nuances showing up on the palate. Firm but refined tannins hold it all together, and the finish lingers with appetising minerality. Drinking Window 2018 - 2028."

Hofgut Falkenstein "AP Nr 13" Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Kabinett 2016

(3/2018) "This issued from old vines in a southwest-facing portion of the once (and no doubt future) prestigious Gross Schock sector of the Euchariusberg. Wet stone, alkaline and faintly fusel notes mingle with cherry and lime on the nose as well as on a brightly juicy palate where luscious white peach emerges, backed by moderate sweetness from 30-some grams of residual sugar. There is a bit of youthful sweet-sour tension to the finish, but it is impressively long and mineral-tinged. This will definitely reward cellaring. Drinking window: 2019 - 2032."

The wine is a lovely and classic bottle of Muscadet, with a nose that wafts from the glass in a mix of green apple, bread fruit, ocean breeze, stony minerality and a touch of lemongrass in the upper register. (2/2019) This 50/50 blend of Viognier and Chardonnay is crafted by Kermit Lynch at Domaine des Durban in Beaumes de Venise. From hand harvested, sustainably farmed vines, it presents ripe stone fruit flavors along with a tense citrus core. An amazing seven days after we opened our sample of this plump, honeyed and super vibrant wine, it was still going strong. Most $16 Cotes du Rhone Blancs wish they tasted this good!

Carlos Serres Rioja Crianza 2015

90 Wine Spectator
(12/31/2018) "This supple red is balanced and expressive. Cherry, vanilla, orange peel and spice notes mingle over light tannins, supported by citrusy acidity. Not a big wine, but has focus and energy. Drink now through 2025. 2,500 cases made."

Sean Minor "4B" Central Coast Chardonnay 2017

89 Our Score
(2/2019) The Sean Minor brand is one that we've enjoyed sharing with our customers for many years. Sourced primarily from fruit grown in Monterey, their 2017 "4B" Chardonnay was raised in a combination of stainless steel and French oak. Creamy and fresh with flavors of light vanilla, toast, pear and white peach, it is a ripe, forward and very smartly priced bottling. (California)

Dry Creek Vineyard Clarksburg Dry Chenin Blanc 2017

89 Wine Enthusiast
(12/31/2018) "Editors' Choice - This wine is a long-running success story for the winery. It carries aromas of citrus zest and freshly sliced apples on the nose. The palate shows good balance through crisp acidity and a medium body, tempered slightly by 4 g/L residual sugar."

Kris Pinot Grigio delle Venezie 2017

87+ Wine Advocate
(8/31/2018) "From the folks at Franz Haas, the Kris 2017 Pinot Grigio (in a screwcap bottle) is a fantastic wine to throw back with garden-fresh summer salads. I'm thinking a generous platter of salade Niçoise with fresh tuna, string beans, boiled potatoes and vinaigrette. The wine is fresh, easygoing and very true to the variety with stone fruit aromas, pear and dry summer grass. This is absolutely one of the best value wines to come out of Italy."

(9/1/2018) "Best Buy - Delicious cherry and plum flavors are accented by touches of black tea, rhubarb and forest floor in this complex, medium-bodied wine. It's slightly soft in feel, but has light tannins and enough acidity to give it some snap."

Chateau Vrai Caillou Bordeaux Superieur 2015

88+ Our Score
(12/2018) Here's a great little find direct from Bordeaux! Blending 60% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, all from Entre-Deux-Mers ("Between Two Seas"), this red offers a concentrated mouthfeel, not what you'd expect at this price! Concentrated red and black fruits with a gravelly, dusty flavor and bright, pleasant finish. This is the perfect everyday "Bistro" Bordeaux!

88+ Our Score
90 Wine Spectator
(12/15/2018) "Distinctive, with a fresh note of spearmint complementing the juicy core of plum and blackberry flavors. Herb, chai tea and cigar box elements linger on the long, expressive finish, where the tannins firm up but never get in the way. Drink now through 2035." (Australia)

Bogle Vineyards California Petite Sirah 2016

90 Beverage Testing Institute
88 Our Score
(12/2018) Petite Sirah might just be the wine Bogle does best. From their home base in Clarksburg, in southern Sacramento County, the Bogle family delivres yet another successful bottling of this concentrated, medium- to full-bodied red wine. Black fruits are here, along with a hint of red currant, fig and cocoa. Just plain tasty!

Bodegas Borsao Campo de Borja Garnacha 2017

88 Wine Advocate
(12/28/2018) "This is the most popular red from Borsao, and it's sold with different labels in different countries. It's mostly Garnacha but contains some Syrah and Tempranillo depending on the vintage, but it's still sold as 2017 Garnacha in some countries. 2017 was warm and dry and resulted in an early harvest with low yields of ripe and healthy grapes. It's a ripe and heady, grapey and straightforward unoaked red with juicy fruit and a sweet twist in the finish, easy to drink and very pleasant."
