Stonestreet "Upper Barn" Alexander Valley Chardonnay 2014

96 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "From a site made famous by Helen Turley when she was buying its fruit, the 2014 Chardonnay Upper Barn is at an 1,800-foot elevation and spent 11 months in 52% new French oak. A killer Chardonnay (as it always has been), the wine offers up notes of wet gravel, citrus oil, apple blossom, orange marmalade, honeysuckle, and a hint of almond paste. Fabulous fruit on the attack, mid-palate and finish characterizes this dry, gorgeous, compelling Chardonnay that should age effortlessly for a decade or more."

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2012

95+ Wine Advocate
(2/28/2017) "Il Poggione is a Brunello superstar and a vintage like this reveals every reason why that affirmation is true. From the second the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino pours into the glass, you know you are in for something special. The wine is darkly saturated and rich in appearance. Absent are those slightly amber or browning hues you often get with Sangiovese in a hot vintage. Nor does the wine show flat or tired characteristics. Instead, the quality of fruit is vibrant and rich. This is a healthy, generous and exuberant Brunello with dark density and succulent fruit flavors that are followed by integrated spice and tobacco. The balance is impressive and one thing you get here is fresh acidity. This is not to be underestimated, because the acidity quota in the 2012 vintage across the appellation is not as high or evident as usual. This is one of the year's best Brunellos."

Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino 2012

96 Wine Advocate
(2/28/2017) "Made strictly according to the Sangiovese playbook, the Il Marroneto 2012 Brunello di Montalcino shows that exacting Sangiovese precision and personality. This is Alessandro Mori's greatest talent. He takes this workhorse grape and gives it a platform to articulate its most hidden and intricate inner feelings and sentiments. This is a bright and very tight red wine that will benefit from more years to flesh out further. All those budding aromas of wild berry, licorice, cola, and blue flower are strategically in place and ready to explode in time. The wine opens to a luminous dark ruby color and a compact mouthfeel that is spicy and fresh on the close. This is an impressive annata wine that shows the personal evolution of a man and his estate. Drink Date: 2018 - 2030."

Pepper Bridge Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

A seriously awesome bottle of Cabernet from the most iconic estate in Walla Walla!
93 Our Score
93 Wine & Spirits
(10/2016) "Like many Pepper Bridge reds, this one takes a full day to unfurl, starting out bound up and as earthy as freshly turned loess soil. But as it opens the wine becomes demonstrably fruit-driven, a fresh, pure shot of blackberry flavor framed by dark, earthy tannins. It needs time in the cellar to knit, then serve with a steak. Voliero Brunello di Montalcino 2012

Made by Andrea Cortonesi of Uccelliera!
94+ Wine Advocate
(2/28/2017) "Voliero is a second brand made by Uccelliera's Andrea Cortonesi. It's slightly more affordable but that's a tricky argument to make given the new sky high price points I'm seeing across the denomination. The Voliero 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is a very pretty expression with dark fruit and an impressive sense of purity and primary fruit authenticity. At its core, you will encounter savory tones of spice, tobacco and leather. The bouquet also offers those beautifully polished Sangiovese-driven aromas of licorice, blue violets and balsam herb. The mouthfeel is succulent and rich. This is a very respectable Brunello that should age forward for at least ten years. Drink Date: 2018 - 2028."

Damien Laureau "Le Bel Ouvrage" Savennieres 2014

92 Our Score
93 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "The citrusgolden 2014 Savennieres Le Bel Ouvrage is from up to 50-year-old vines on deep and stony, not very fertile soils. Fermented in tank and aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels, and another six months in tanks, this is a clear, ripe, intense and fruity Chenin; it has some yeasty flavors in the background. Full-bodied, rich and highly elegant, this is a dense, concentrated, perfectly balanced, refreshing mineral Chenin with a firm and persistent structure; it has a long, complex and powerful finish. The aging potential is enormous, but the wine is also pretty accessible today. Drink Date 2016 - 2030."

(1/2018) The 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet from Sequoia Grove makes a big impact upfront, revealing a deep ruby/purple color and aromas of new oak, including toast and chocolate. Galia Vino de Mesa 2013

94+ Wine Advocate
(10/29/2015) "The 2013 Galia is mostly old-vine Tempranillo with some 7% Garnacha from very old vineyards in different villages around the Duero River. The grapes from different soils fermented separately with indigenous yeasts and one third full clusters, except the Garnacha which was 100% full-cluster. The different lots matured separately for some 19 months, most in used 225- and 600-liter French barriques and part in egg-shaped cement vats. This is again extremely fresh, floral, almost citric, open, exuberant, elegant and harmonious with no traces of oak whatsoever. It's hard to decide between this and the 2012, and at the end of the day, they are slightly different; here it is spicier with a faint herbal touch, but finally at a very similar qualitative level. Both wines reflect very well what each vintage was, but with a common thread of the same places and grapes. This is an awesome value. Drink Date: 2016 - 2023."

Sparkman "Holler" Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

91 Our Score
(1/2018) Chris and Kelly Sparkman produce delicious and balanced wines from top vineyards in Washington State's Columbia Valley, and the previous two vintages of this wine earned huge accolades from Wine Spectator. This not-yet-reviewed 2015 edition is another winner. Aged in a combination of French and American oak, 30% of which was new, it offers beautifully balanced flavors of blueberry, blackberry, vanilla, light toast, hints of coffee and pepper flavors on the palate, and finishes with medium-plus tannins and medium-plus acidity. We tasted the 2015 Holler next to a several more expensive offerings from California, and the brightness and balance of this wine really stood out.

Patricia Green Willamette Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2016

90+ Our Score
(12/2017) Fruit tones lead the way on this creamy, medium-bodied offering, with flavors of lavender, mint and tomato leaf alongside a savory hint of matcha. If tasted blind, you might initially guess it as white Bordeaux - though the ripe melon, kiwi and nectarine notes are also reminiscent of Santa Barbara. This will pair quite nicely with winter soups, including tomato or lobster bisque, as well as seared scallops, spicy duck curry, and myriad other dishes. As with the Pinots, this will get better if allowed to breathe. Don't hesitate to decant or to drink over a period of several days. This really is a unique and delicious Sauvignon Blanc that stands alone in a crowded field.

From the stellar 2016 vintage, this is basically a baby Chateauneuf, sourced from two sites adjacent to the Chateauneuf-du-Pape border. The wine is primarily Grenache with small percentages of Mourvedre, Cinsault and Syrah added. The nose and palate give peppery, deep red fruits perfumed with fresh floral aromas. It mixes fruit from many different zones, with the grapes from the higher part of Valle de Uco fermented with full clusters, the medium part (Vista Flores, lower La Consulta) destemmed and put together with the full clusters from the higher altitude vineyards and the lower parts totally destemmed and in stainless steel. Nielson Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2014

89+ Our Score
(1/2018) Byron's Nielson Pinot Noir is named after Uriel Nielson, a pioneer who planted Pinot Noir in Santa Barbara 50 years ago. Uriel definitely knew what he was doing as the Pinot Noir coming out of Santa Barbara as of late has been outstanding, giving more well-known regions like Sonoma Coast and Willamette Valley a run for their money! This 2014 bottling showcases the beautiful ripe fruit flavors that come from the warm climate and extended hang time for which this region is known. Cherries, raspberry and pomegranate are met with complementary notes of red flower petals and baking spice. A bright and lively palate balances out the ripe fruit and makes for a lip smackingly delicious wine that will pair perfectly with anything from BBQ ribs, crispy pig ears, and pork chops to bacon and eggs.

The 2016 Langhe Sorriso makes good use of the physical characteristics offered by each variety. Chateau La Grande Metairie Bordeaux 2015

We've just reloaded on this bargain from Bordeaux!
89 Our Score
(6/2017) A pretty serious Bordeaux here for not a whole lot of dollars, which isn't a surprise given the quality of the 2015 vintage. Blending 75% Merlot with 25% Cabernet Sauvignon - sourced from clay-limestone soils - this bottling offers more fruit, weight and structure than one would expect at this price. Drink now with burgers or flank steak, or age for another 3-5 years.

Louis Martini Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

89 Our Score
(1/2018) Soft and very easy to drink, this Sonoma Cabernet shows hints of cocoa and pepper to go with the plush cassis, raspberry and red plum fruit notes. Bright, with medium tannins and a soft finish, this is a lot of Cabernet for the price. For best results, pop this open a few hours before you serve or give it a quick splash in the decanter!

Ferrari-Carano Sonoma County Fume Blanc 2016

89 Wine Enthusiast
88 Our Score
(1/2018) The latest vintage of this perennial favorite has arrived! Flinty aromas along with the slightest touch of oak on the palate (31% of the cuvee sees used barrels) results in a very complete package. Finishing clean and dry, this peach and melon flavored Sauvignon Blanc hits right in the sweet spot.

Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2014

89 Our Score
89 Wine Advocate
(8/2017) "The 2014 Salice Salentino Riserva is a heavy and concentrated wine with prune, raisin and blackberry jelly. The wine is hearty and dense with sweet flavors on the finish that are interwoven tightly with equally savory characteristics. Despite those big bones, this wine from Cantele ultimately offers good balance and a very clean and correct drinking style. It a great value, too."

(12/2016) "The 2015 Cotes du Rhone Villages is an outstanding Southern Rhone that has loads of ripe strawberry and raspberry fruits, medium-bodied richness and a peppery, spicy style on the palate that makes it a joy to drink. Bodegas Montebuena "Cuvee KPF" Rioja 2015

90 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(10/2016) "(Aged for three months in used American oak barrels) Vivid ruby. Bright, sharply focused aromas of fresh red fruits and flowers, along with a spicy overtone and a hint of vanilla. Lithe and appealingly sweet on the palate, offering vibrant, oak-spiced raspberry and cherry flavors and a subtle rose pastille nuance. Finishes supple and long, displaying silky, slow-building tannins and resonating spiciness."

Domaine Lafage "Novellum" Chardonnay 2016

92 Wine Advocate
(4/28/2017) "A sensational wine that will compete with wines five times the price, the 2016 Novellum Chardonnay is the real deal and actually reminded me of a Chardonnay from Mark Aubert in California's Sonoma County. White peach, crushed rocks, spice and brioche notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied Chardonnay that has depth, layered texture and length. Buy it."

Bodegas Casa Castillo Jumilla 2015

91 James Suckling
90 Wine Advocate
(6/29/2016) "The wine formerly known as 'Monastrell' is now simply 2015 Casa Castillo because it is now a blend of Monastrell with some 10% Syrah and around 5% Garnacha and it will continue being a Monastrell-based blend with some more Garnacha, maybe up to 15%, in the future. I previewed a tentative blend of this 2015 and then tasted the bottled version a few weeks later. It shows ripe fruit, red and black, some spiciness and plenty of Mediterranean herbs. This feels young but it has no edges, it's juicy and supple, young but accessible. It will be much better after a few months in bottle, so hold the cork if you can resist it."

90+ Cellars "Lot 2" Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017

88 Our Score
(1/2018) This is our number one selling sub-$10 Sauvignon Blanc, and it is one of the first wines in our stores from the 2017 vintage. Like previous years, it's quite the tasty value. Sweet citrus and candied tropical fruit flavors are balanced by refreshing Sauvignon Blanc acidity. Fun and very drinkable, the "Lot 2" is a go-to favorite for year-round parties and all-purpose quaffing!

Tilia Mendoza Malbec 2016

90 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "The youthful and aromatic 2016 Malbec has an alcohol level that is one degree lower than the 2015, as the grapes where harvested earlier because of the problems with the vintage. This ended up being an advantage to produce a light and very drinkable Malbec, balsamic and aromatic, even minty with something that reminded me of basil leaves. The palate is similar to the 2015, a tad fresher, and even if they are very similar in style this 2016 is more exuberant in the aromas. A triumph over the vintage. A perfect introduction to Mendoza Malbec at a very attractive price."

Evodia Aragon Garnacha 2015

90 Our Score
(9/2017) A partnership between importer Eric Solomon, Calatayud grape specialist Yolanda Diaz and winemaking genius Jean-Marc Lafage, Evodia is one of the best red wine values produced anywhere in the world! 100% Grenache from 40-100 year old vines, it has a super-pleasant juicy fruity beginning and then, once allowed some oxygen, reveals much deeper levels of flavor and texture. Notes of blackberry, black raspberry and black pepper interact with a schist minerality. The end result is a soft, medium-full bodied wine with layers of flavor and a complete structural experience not typically found at this price. Very impressive, this is one to buy by the case for parties and any-night-of-the-week enjoyment.
