Robert Craig Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(3/2018) "The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mt. Veeder) is seriously beautiful. A healthy dollop (24%) of Merlot gives the wine terrific mid-palate pliancy and fruit depth to play off of the more intensely mineral and soil-drive signatures, of which there are many. Raspberry jam, crushed rocks, blood orange, white pepper and red cherry jam infuse this deep, powerful Cabernet Sauvignon from Robert Craig. I would give the 2015 at least a few years to settle down, as the tannins are imposing at this early stage. Drinking window: 2020 - 2035."

Made from 100% Syrah aged in 80% new wood, this beauty is concentrated, full-bodied, and silky, with no hard edges. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years. Maturity: 2018 - 2025."

Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils "Cuvee Tradition" Chateauneuf du Pape 2016

93 James Suckling
92 Wine Advocate
93 Jeb Dunnuck
(8/28/2018) "The classic 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape checks in at around 75% Grenache, 10% each of Syrah and Mourvedre, and a splash of Cinsault. This rock star traditional cuvee gives up loads of black licorice, garrigue, black raspberries, and kirsch liqueur. It's powerful and full-bodied, yet elegant and seamless, with fine tannin, no hard edges, and a great finish. Despite the richness and weight, it stays weightless and elegant, with silky tannin. Don't miss it."

Philippe Glavier "La Grace d'Alphael" Grand Cru Brut Champagne NV

92+ Our Score
(11/2018) A hand-crafted Grand Cru Champagne for under $40? Yep! Philippe Glavier was recently added to the Terry Theise portfolio of grower-produced Champagne, and our buying team was able to snap up a supply from the previous importer for a very special price. This 100% Chardonnay is supple and crisp, with a low dosage of 5g/L and beautiful purity. A properly ripe but focused Blanc de Blancs, it is radiant with lemon, caramel and chalky highlights. An outstanding food wine, and graceful enough to impress as an aperitif

Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Medium-bodied, lively and expressive in the mouth, it has a pleasant pluminess accented by herb and earth notions, finishing long and chewy."

G. D. Vajra "Albe" Barolo 2013

93 Wine Spectator
92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(2/2017) "Vajra's 2013 Barolo Albe is beautifully perfumed, sensual and expressive in this vintage, with a bit less overt fruit and more aromatic/structural intensity than is often the case. The style of the Albe has always favored a more succulent expression of Nebbiolo that is quite different from the single-vineyard wines, but the 2013 suggests Vajra may be moving the Albe closer in line stylistically to their other Barolos, which I think is a positive. In any event, there is an element of restraint in the 2013 that is hugely appealing. The Albe is a blend of fruit from Fossati, Coste di Vergne and La Volta aged in 75 hectoliter casks. The Albe may be the single best value in Barolo today. As for the 2013, don't miss it!"

(10/2016) "(Fermented in small stainless steel tanks and aged for 15 months in new French and American oak barrels) Inky purple. Powerful, smoke- and oak-spiced aromas of dark berries, pipe tobacco and candied violet, along with a suave mineral topnote. Stolpman Ballard Canyon Estate Grown Syrah 2016

(4/27/2018) "Stolpman's largest cuvée, amounting to some 4,400 cases, is the keenly priced 2016 Syrah Estate, which reveals a classic nose of blackberry, violets, rose petal, cracked pepper and grilled meat. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, expansive and juicy with an ample core of sweet fruit and good length and persistence. Some chalky tannins assert themselves on the finish, but it's already drinking well. Drink Date 2018 - 2026."

Domaine Robert Denogent Macon Villages 2014

92 Our Score
(1/2019) One of the most respected producers in the Maconnais, and in all of southern Burgundy for that matter, is Domaine Robert Denogent. Run by fourth generation vigneron Nicolas Robert, the single-site Chardonnays of this estate are often compared to great Meursaults and Puligny-Montrachets, and rightly so. This bottling is their entry level wine, and it is a fantastic value at our discounted price. Offering minerality, chalky tension and flavors of ripe pear, honeyed citrus and toasted almond, this four-year old Chardonnay is drinking beautifully, especially with roast chicken!

Domaine Roger Neveu "Cote des Embouffants" Sancerre 2017

91 Our Score
(1/2019) Embouffants is an extremely steep, south-facing, limestone vineyard that the Neveu brothers and their sons sustainably farm. Imported by Kermit Lynch, this attractive Sauvignon Blanc is highly expressive on the nose, giving citrus and tropical fruit notes along with salty white stone minerality. Initially tight on the palate, the wine quickly opens and expands with air. A delicious Sancerre from a small estate that we've admired for years.

Deltetto "Clone 777" Langhe Pinot Nero 2016

90+ Our Score
(1/2019) This single-vineyard, single-clone Pinot Noir from the passionate Deltetto family of Roero was a great surprise! Clean, structured and quite pretty, it manages to be Burgundian in style while retaining a Piemontese flair. Notes of cherry, cranberry, blood orange and holiday spice are coaxed-out with aeration. Clean and dry with wonderful texture from its extremely fine tannins, this is a serious wine with no fat on its bones. The length and intensity indicate a wine that will evolve well in the bottle, if you happen to have that kind of patience! We were shocked at how well this affordable wine showed even after being open for a week!

Mura "Cortes" Cannonau di Sardegna 2017

92 Our Score
(11/2018) Dark, intense and yet undeniably pretty, this wine is a complete package that will keep you young forever, as Cannonau is the lifeblood of one of the original five "Blue Zones" - the Mediterranean isle of Sardinia. There is great muscle and very little fat on its well-structured bones. Blackberry preserves and lively black plum are lifted by floral notes and perfectly balanced acidity. The finish is long, with a rugged dark, earthy minerality. There are a lot of wine regions where this experience would easily cost $40.

Broc Cellars "Love Red" North Coast 2017

Welcome to the future of red blends!
90 Our Score
(1/2019) The low-alcohol, low-intervention "natural" style of wine has been on the outskirts of the wine world for some time. Wines like this one from Chris Brockway will fuel the growth of the movement. Offering fun, vibrant flavors of mixedberries, plum, dried lavender and pan fond, this is a tremendously well-crafted wine - made without any acid adjustments, a minimal sulfur addition, and checking in at an exceptionally drinkable 12.5% alcohol. A blend of 50% Carignan, 36% Valdiguie, 8% Syrah and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, it was sourced from 70 year old vines across two vineyard sites in the Solano County/ Green Valley AVA. Natural wine done right, for a fabulous price.

The Fableist "774" Central Coast Pinot Noir 2017

(1/2019) A collaboration between Curt Schalchlin and Andrew Jones, this is as pretty and perfumed an example of Central Coast Pinot as we can remember! Juicy raspberry and peach flesh flavors are lifted with lemon zest and made exotic with more than a touch of rose petal. Exceptionally soft and offering plenty of flavor, it improves with air and will be quite nice partnered with barbecued pork cheeks and a wide range of dishes. A playful Pinot done right.

Catherine Marshall Elgin Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2017

91 Our Score
(12/2018) Our favorite South African Sauvignon Blanc is now in vintage 2017, and it's just as expressively delicious as past vintages have been. Sourced from sustainably farmed vines in the cool-climate growing region of Elgin, the 2017 gives tropical sub-tones to support the traditional "old world" Sauvignon flavors of lemon, green apple and nuanced green flavors. Lively acidity balances out the generous and long mouthfeel. Friendly enough to enjoy alone, this wine will also pair well with Thai food and crab legs. Delicious!

Domaine Lafage "Cote Est" Grenache Blanc/Chardonnay/Roussanne 2017

90 Jeb Dunnuck
(2/21/2018) "Spice, citrus, white flowers and some seaside saltiness all emerge from the 2017 Cote d'Est, a deliciously fresh, clean, balanced white that represents a smoking value. This beauty has texture, freshness, and length. The blend is 50% Grenache Blanc, 30% Chardonnay, and 20% Roussanne all aged 4 months in tank on the lees, and it's ideal for drinking over the coming year. This cuvee is a joint venture with Eric Solomon and comes from east-facing vineyards planted on gentle slopes close to the Mediterranean, just a few kilometers inland from the sea near Canet-en-Roussillon. Maturity 2018 - 2019."

Portell Brut Cava NV

87+ Our Score
(12/2018) A traditional blend of 70% Macabeu and 30% Parellada, this tasty Brut Cava from Portell is simply a delight to drink. Produced using the Champagne Method, this wine is fully sparkling and quite rich on the palate while also remaining bright, crisp and very refreshing. Clean fruit flavors of green apple, white peach and citrus zest take center stage with a back drop of minerality, spice and bread dough. The slightest hint of sweetness keeps everything in balance. This tasty bottle of bubbly is a perfect choice for parties, Sunday mimosas or BYOB outings. A rarity in the sub-$10 sparkling category!

Evodia Aragon Garnacha 2016

89 Wine Advocate
91 Jeb Dunnuck
(2/21/2018) "Another project between Eric Solomon and the Roussillon's Jean-Marc Lafage, the 2016 Evodia comes from higher elevation vineyards and is mostly Garnacha (there's 5% Syrah) aged in a mix of tank and demi-muids. This deep ruby/purple colored is a gorgeous, naked expression of Grenache that just knocks it out of the park. Blackberries, blueberries, pepper, licorice and hints of asphalt all emerge from this plump, sexy, opulent, and shockingly concentrated wine that has incredible charm and character. It's the best 10-dollar bottle of wine I've tasted in years."

Bogle California Chardonnay 2017

87 Our Score
88 Beverage Testing Institute
(9/17/2018) "Straw green color. Woody aromas of lemon-lime and cream sodas, oak, apple-cinnamon compote, and white flowers with a satiny, bright, dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body and a tingling, interesting, medium-length ripe peaches and pineapple, toasted marshmallow, lemon curd, and allspice finish with heavy oak. A dry and oaky chardonnay with nice balance and approachable style."
