Bergadano Barolo 2012

91 Our Score
(6/2019) Imported directly to Chicago by a local Italian specialist, this classic Barolo eschews the traditional importer mark-up, resulting in an absurdly low price. The 2012 Bergadano gives chewy tannins, excellent acidity and lovely flavors of dried flowers, red earth, perfume and dried red fruits. Drinkable now and over the next 5 to 7 years, it is a great Barolo to serve to your guests. They'll never guess how much you paid!

Beckmen Vineyards "Purisima Mountain Vineyard" Ballard Canyon Syrah 2016

This gorgeous Ballard Canyon red is simply dripping with pure, rich fruit. A year ago we featured it for $24.79 and loved it at that price. We just reloaded and offer it now for several bucks less!

The 2016 Syrah Purisima Mountain is a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier that was aged 16 months in 40% new French oak. Deep ruby/purple-colored, with attractive notes of black fruits, smoked herbs, bacon fat, and pepper, it's medium to full-bodied, ripe and polished, with tons of fruit as well as underlying structured and depth. It's a smoking Syrah as well as a great value.

La Mascaronne "Fazioli" Cotes de Provence Rouge 2016

91 Our Score
(6/2019) Chateau La Mascaronne produces one of our favorite Provence Roses, and they also make this equally compelling and delicious red. A blend of mostly Syrah with Mourvedre and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, this nearly full-bodied wine is deep and concentrated with black cherry, black raspberry, blueberry and blackberry fruit flavors. The minerality and rocky earth tones remind us of Priorat, with a touch of fresh herbs on the lengthy finish adding complexity. This is a very elegant and complex wine that totally over delivers, especially if allowed an hour or so in a decanter to fully open up.

La Mascaronne "Quat 'Saisons" Cotes de Provence Rose 2018

91 Wine Advocate
(4/30/2019) "This organic producer clearly merits more attention. The 2018 Cotes de Provence Rose Quat'Saisons offers up hints of wet stone, fresh herbs and citrus on the nose, then adds red currant, cranberry and cherry on the light to medium-bodied palate. It unfolds nicely, yielding pleasant notes of white chocolate on the long, harmonious finish."

Casarena "Naoki's Vineyard" Mendoza Malbec 2014

92 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
(6/2018) "(From vines on a plateau above Agrelo on the eastern side of the valley; the amount of limestone in this soil is unusual for the area, which is not normally a prime place for Malbec): Bright red-ruby. Highly aromatic perfume of blackberry, violet and licorice, plus a touch of peppery wildness; I was reminded both of Pinot Noir and northern Rhone Syrah. Plush, savory, pungent wine with distinctive limestone energy giving the middle palate a light touch. Utterly fine-grained wine with terrific subtle flavor intensity and grip. Finishes with very smooth tannins and lovely rising floral length. A very complex, penetrating Malbec with lovely restrained sweetness."

Thurston Wolfe "Zephyr Ridge Vineyard" Petite Sirah Horse Heaven Hills 2016

91 Our Score
(6/2019) Another gorgeous release from Thurston Wolfe! This full-throttle red spent 21 months maturing in a combination of French and American oak. Loaded with oak spice, smoke and black pepper nuances that interplay perfectly with the dense red and black fruit flavors and aromas, this big, tasty, tooth staining wine unfolds into a velvety finish. A big-time customer and staff favorite.
