An ethereal red from husband and wife superstars, winemaker Andy Erickson and viticulturalist Annie Favia.
95 Wine Advocate
(12/13/2018) "Deep garnet purple colored, the 2015 Quarzo Syrah (100% Syrah) has quite an earthy, savory nose of smoked meats, fungi, black pepper and chargrill with a core of warm black plums, blackberry compote and licorice plus a touch of charcoal. Full-bodied and firm, with beautifully rounded tannins, it has a wonderfully generous core and loads of layers, finishing long and spicy. Serious stuff! 289 cases produced. Drink Date 2018 - 2034."

Martinelli "Giuseppe & Luisa" Russian River Valley Zinfandel 2016

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(1/2018) "The 2016 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa screams with personality. Bright, red-toned fruit, floral overtones and hints of tobacco all flesh out in the glass, but it is the wine's textural richness and silkiness that elevate the 2016 into the realm of the truly compelling. Racy and super-varietal, the Giuseppe & Luisa is simply a great expression of Russian River Zinfandel. The Giuseppe & Luisa emerges from a parcel planted by Lee Martinelli Sr. with cuttings taken from the original Jackass Hill vineyard his grandparents planted in 1899. Drinking window: 2020 - 2036."

Poggio San Polo Brunello di Montalcino 2013

96 James Suckling
96 Wine Enthusiast
93+ Wine Advocate
(6/29/2018) "The Poggio San Polo 2013 Brunello di Montalcino offers bright and sweet cherry fruit that pops out with pretty intensity as soon as you lift the glass to your nose. This wine offers beautiful fruit definition and a snappy personality that sings loud and clear. So many Brunellos can taste flat and evolved, but this wine is jazzy and very lively instead. The wine is fermented in cement vats and later aged in large oak casks and tonneaux for two years. Drink Date 2019 - 2033."

Paul Hobbs Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2016

95 Jeb Dunnuck
(6/5/2018) "The 2016 Chardonnay Russian River Valley is a beauty that shines on all accounts. Aged 10 months on lees in 45% new French oak, it reveals a gold, slightly green-tinged color to go with awesome notes of caramelized citrus, freshly crushed rocks, spice, and a distinct salinity. It's clean, medium to full-bodied, beautifully layered, and just a head-turning Chardonnay well worth seeking out."

92 Our Score
(2/2019) The 2014 "La Villa" Barolo from Seghesio is a gorgeous and very expressive wine that is deliciously approachable and ready to drink now. A very clean wine, it leads off with pure red fruit flavors of cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate with notes of fresh cut red flowers, baking spice and a streak of minerality. The palate is well balanced by the wine's bright, lively and refreshing acid and soft, silky tannins that are well integrated into the long finish. Decant for an hour and enjoy!

Galerie "Pleinair" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

94 Jeb Dunnuck
93 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "The 2014 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon called Pleinair is a blend of 95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest tiny quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is aged 20 months in 58% new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. This wine has a similarity to a top-flight St.-Julien from Bordeaux. Loads of Christmas fruitcake, cedar wood, tobacco leaf, black currants and spice box all jump from the glass and from the flavors of this round, juicy, medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannins. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. Drink Date 2016 - 2031."

Leviathan California Red Wine 2016

94+ Wine Advocate
(12/13/2018) "From winemaker Andy Erickson, the 2016 Leviathan is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Merlot aged in 25% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with exuberant black cherries, black raspberries and blackcurrants with hints of pencil shavings, black pepper, tobacco and forest floor plus a waft of tapenade. Full, firm and grainy, with gorgeous mid-palate generosity and packed with layers of black fruit and savory sparks, it has a rock-solid frame of ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long. Approachable now yet structured to cellar, this seriously affordable, serious California blend should age 15-20 years or more. Drink Date 2018 - 2038."

Penner-Ash Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2015

93+ Wine Advocate
(11/30/2018) "In 2015 we really tried to focus on earlier picking instead of acidulation," says Lynn Penner-Ash. "2015 has a life to it, a brightness." Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley has a gorgeous nose of violet and rose petal over a core of warm red and black cherries, baked cranberries, pink peppercorn, bergamot and an exotic hint of saltiness. Light to medium-bodied, it has wonderful layers of red and black fruits in the mouth with a strong line of spice-cardamom, nutmeg, hints of pepper-plus notes of autumn leaves and dusty earth. It's got supple, grainy tannins and wonderful juicy acidity carrying the layered finish. Drink Date 2019 - 2024."

(2/28/2018) "The 2016 Il Frappato is another surprise hit from a vintage that was not easy generally speaking. This wine is chiseled and focused, showing a pretty mineral note that is carried forth from start to finish. The wine is delicate and finessed with small berry nuances, dried blackberry, cherry and pencil shaving. This is an elegant and graceful red wine from Sicily.

(3/2019) A powerful, modern-style Cabernet from Israel? Absolutely! This is ancient winemaking territory, with high-elevation vineyards. Gai'a Estate "Thalassitis" Santorini 2017

95 Wine Advocate
(6/29/2018) "The 2017 Thalassitis is an unoaked Assyrtiko coming in at 13% alcohol. This is a bottling I usually prize for its freshness, elegance and lively demeanor. This year, one in which the wines could have a lot of concentration if you could avoid heat spikes, it has all of those things still, but it seems to lean to a deeper style instead of an exhilarating one. Overall, it finishes with a big hit of fruit, nicely supported by its acidity. On the first day tasted, it was a bit stolid. The next day, it reminded me of Thalassitis again-big acidity slicing and dicing that fruit, even in a year when it seems very dense and ripe. The score went up notably. The gripping and tense finish, by the way, seems endless. This does lack its usual finesse, so we'll see where it goes when it unfolds. This does have some things to prove in the cellar. In the new Santorini Assyrtiko trend, it is no longer acceptable to make wines that just drink well for five years, at least not if you want to be at the top of your game. It mostly seems pretty super, and it is worth leaning up right now. Drink Date 2018 - 2027."

Swerwer Swartland Chenin Blanc 2017

This is a solo project of Jasper Wickens, long-time winemaker for South African star Adi Badenhorst. At an average age of forty years, dryland bush vines create a highly concentrated white that will please a broad swath of palates. Notes of pineapple, quince and peach are highlighted by a punch of salted honey leading to an incredibly long finish. The weight of this wine is deceptive with lifted, cracking acidity - a hallmark of great dry Chenin Blanc. The value here is mind-boggling. If you are a fan of dry, interesting whites, your dreams have come true!

Pecchenino "Siri d'Jermu" Dogliani Dolcetto 2016

93 James Suckling
93 Wine & Spirits
(12/2018) "The Pecchenino brothers produce excellent Barolo from their holdings in Monforte d'Alba, but their specialty is dolcetto, the premium grape of the Dogliani region just south of Monforte, where their farm is situated amid 54 acres of vines. This year our panels recommended all three of their dolcetto wines, from three very different vintages, a testament to their mastery over this finicky variety. The oak-aged 2016 Siri d'Jermu led the way with its inky purple hue and deep flavors of blueberry and wild raspberry highlighted by scents of violet and lavender. Delicious now for the vibrant fruit flavors, it has the firmness and freshness to age gracefully. Orlando Pecchenino recommends holding it for at least ten years."

Martin Nigl, who owns the winery with his family and is the winemaker, blends Grüner grapes from four different parcels in Kremstal. He practices sustainable farming, never using pesticides, which helps bring out vitality in the plants. The wine is spontaneously fermented in stainless-steel tanks, allowing the terroir to shine through. An exuberant style, gaining a fizzy impression from the minerality. (3/1/2019) "Best Buy - Right on the heels of the 2016 comes this early release from 2017. It's almost a twin-smooth, ripe and remarkable for the price. Flavorful berry and plum fruit with well-massaged notes of vanilla, tobacco and Bourbon combine to make this a most enjoyable everyday wine. That it's true Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is even better."

Kuentz Bas Alsace Blanc 2015

89 Our Score
(3/2019) A blend of 60% Sylvaner, 20% Muscat, 20% Auxerrois, this Kermit Lynch import is expressive, bright and nervy, with a melange of citrus and tropical fruit flavors. The lively acidity, rich mouthfeel and overt yumminess - combined with our special price - make this decidedly old world style wine very attractive. Try this as a welcome wine, with tom yum soup or Indian food.

(3/2018) "Lots of fleshy black and red cherry fruit swishes on nose and palate. It is juicy fruit that firmly stands in the foreground on a fluid palate which also has lovely, exciting tinges of white pepper spice. The body is fresh and light, the finish is refreshing and moreish."
