Tenuta San Vito "Malmantico" Vin Santo del Chianti 2011

92 Our Score
(5/2019) The beautiful Vin Santo dessert wines of Italy are made by drying grapes (100% Malvasia in this case) on mats before pressing, thus concentrating the flavor. Exquisite fig, raisin, caramel and baked apple flavors combine with a nice acidic backbone to make for a deliciously balanced dessert wine. It's rare to find Vin Santo at this price, especially one this good. Grab a biscotti or a pecan tart and enjoy!

BLANKbottle "Don't Look Back" Swartland Clairette 2017

BLANKBottle is the label of South African winemaker Pieter Wasler. Rather than focusing on a few varietals or a particular style, most of Pieter's wines are one-off projects, sometimes rather obscure, always very well made. This wine is named as an ode to Pieter's former assistant, Julia, who not long ago left for France. The image on the label is of Julia looking over her shoulder and Pieter's message to go forward and "don't look back".
91 Our Score
(3/2019) Made from very old bush vine Clairette from Swartland, the wine is quite finessed, unique and delicious. Hip and decidedly natural, the wine is fresh, inviting and bursting with layers of apple blossom, lemon zest, subtle crunchy pear and waves of minerality. This unusual white is great to drink on its own or with your favorite seafood.

Boen Sonoma/Monterey/Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2017

Many of you know the story of Joe Wagner's sale of the Meiomi brand to Constellation in the summer of 2015. The big news this year is that Wagner is back in the Tri-County Pinot Noir business! With this new Boen bottling, he puts his skills - and likely some of the same vineyard contracts that used to go into Meiomi - to good use. There are rich, generous, yummy flavors of black cherry, raspberry coulis, black plum skins, smoke, mocha, thyme and spice. The finish is even and clean. If you were a fan of Meiomi when it was in its prime, you'll love this one!

Mas d'En Compte "Black Slate" Porrera Priorat 2016

94 Jeb Dunnuck
(4/3/2019) "The 2016 Black Slate Porrera comes from a project of importer Eric Solomon focusing on the specific villages in the Priorat. The 2016 is 60% Grenache and 40% Carignan that was mostly destemmed and spent a full year in used barrels. Thrilling blue fruits, tar, rose petals, and a smoky, marine, iodine-like character all emerge from this full-bodied effort that opens up nicely with time in the glass. Tasting like it cost three times the price, it picks up more minerality with time in the glass, has beautiful balance, and great purity of fruit. It would be hard to find a better value. Drink bottles over the coming 3-5 years."

(4/5/2018) "The 2016 Spellbinder is a value-priced blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot. Deep ruby/purple-colored with lots of black and blue fruits, earth, and gravelly minerality, it has terrific depth of fruit, no hard edges, and solid overall freshness and purity."

92 Wine Enthusiast
90+ Our Score
(5/2019) Front-loaded with deliciously juicy and ripe flavors of blackberry, cassis, blueberry and black cherry, this excellent Cabernet Sauvignon from superstar winemaker Kirk Venge totally over delivers on its sweet-spot price of just under twenty bucks. The palate is dense and concentrated with a soft mouthfeel and supple tannins. The finish is very long and filled with enticing notes of cocoa, black pepper and vanilla bean. A full, forward, completely delicious Cabernet that will put a big smile on your face.

Eyrie Estate Dundee Hills Pinot Gris 2016

91 Wine Advocate
92 Wine Enthusiast
(10/1/2018) "Eyrie pioneered this variety and continues a half century later to break new ground. It's aromatically complex and elegant, with compelling flavors of waxy apple, grapefruit and star fruit. The wet stone acidity keeps it lively and fresh, but based on the winery's history, this is a Pinot Gris that can age quite well. Drink now to 2030 and perhaps beyond."

The blend is 60% Grenache and 40% Cinsault brought up all in tank."
