David Duband Bourgogne Rouge 2016

92 Our Score
(3/2019) Don't let the simple "Bourgogne" appellation fool you on this gorgeous red Burgundy from David Duband. The grapes that go into this wine are from 40-year-old vines located in Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-St. Denis. They are picked and sorted by hand and then fermented with 40% whole clusters. Gentle aging in French oak barrels, 30% which are new, lends to the silky and soft texture. The wine is clean and fresh red fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries, raspberry and pomegranate are accented by beautiful red floral tones and subtle oak spices. Elegant and totally delicious to drink, this beauty is priced right in the sweet spot for a red Burgundy of this quality.

Boen Sonoma/Monterey/Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2017

Many of you know the story of Joe Wagner's sale of the Meiomi brand to Constellation in the summer of 2015. The big news this year is that Wagner is back in the Tri-County Pinot Noir business! With this new Boen bottling, he puts his skills - and likely some of the same vineyard contracts that used to go into Meiomi - to good use. There are rich, generous, yummy flavors of black cherry, raspberry coulis, black plum skins, smoke, mocha, thyme and spice. The finish is even and clean. If you were a fan of Meiomi when it was in its prime, you'll love this one!
