Henri Billiot Fils "Cuvee Laetitia" Brut Grand Cru Brut Champagne NV

94+ Our Score
(1/2018) This wonderfully unique and significant bottling hails entirely from the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims - known for its powerful fruit. Scarcely have we experienced as ripe and supple of a Champagne, the mindbender here being that the cuvee is composed primarily (70%) of wine from a perpetual reserve solera with vintages dating back to 1983. 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir. Ripeness is the key word in understanding this immediately delicious, but layered experience. Ripe green and red apples are highlighted by laser-like candied lemon, with a strong undercurrent of fine chalkiness all the while. There's a balance of length, power and finesse that goes beyond description. If there can be at once a connoisseur's Champagne that is at the same time a sumptuous, hedonist's Champagne (a category that is painfully fleeting), this is the one. Hard to resist but cellar for complexity, this is shockingly youthful and primary for a wine with so much reserve stock.

Henri Billiot Brut Rose Grand Cru NV

94 Our Score
(12/2018) Disgorged 10/31/2018. As with many Champagne growers in the Theise portfolio, the wines of Billiot seem to be moving towards more energy and lift, with potentially lower dosages. This latest batch of Rose is absolutely wonderful, blending 80% Pinot Noir with 20% Chardonnay, with 50% of the assemblage from 2015, with 25% each 2014 and 2013. No Malo here, as always, with all fruit sourced from Laetitia Billiot's holdings in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay. Ripe and tangy strawberry fruits are delicious, long and super fresh.

Henri Billiot "Brut Reserve" Grand Cru Ambonnay NV

93+ Our Score
(11/2017) A delicious release from Laetitia Billiot, a woman that is kicking serious Champagne butt in her Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, producing less than 4000 cases annually! This wine is dominated by Pinot Noir, with smaller amounts of Chardonnay, and is based on 2014, with some 2012, 2013 and 2015. With no malolactic, 11 grams of residual sugar and a hint of skin contact, this is a generous and delicious sparkling wine with flavors of baked pear and almond butter, and brisk tension. Disgorged February 2017.

Billecart-Salmon "Brut Reserve" Champagne NV

91 Wine Spectator
(11/15/2016) "This bright Champagne is sleek and mouthwatering, with tightly knit flavors of glazed apricot, biscuit, nectarine and verbena. Clean-cut and lacy on the finish. Drink now through 2018."
