Domaine Auguste Clape Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(2/2018) "Opaque ruby. Spice-accented aromas of black raspberry, violet and smoky minerals, plus a hint of allspice in the background. Concentrated yet lithe and precise, offering spice-tinged dark berry flavors and a bracing jolt of acidity that adds focus and back-end cut. Fleshes out slowly with air and shows very good clarity and appealing sweetness on a long, gently tannic finish."

From The Tank Cotes du Rhone Rouge NV 3.0 LT

86 Our Score
(5/2018) The "From the Tank" line is a special project of high quality boxed wines from importers Jenny & Francois Selections. This 3L box is the equivalent of 4 regular bottles of wine and can be kept for up to 3 - 4 weeks after opening. Not to mention the packaging is extremely environmentally friendly, leaving a far smaller footprint than traditional bottles. The goal was to source the highest quality organic fruit from some of their producers and make friendly everyday wines that are simple, accessible and naturally made. This will never be accused of being too modern or polished. This is gusty rough and tumble stuff that has a backbone and a rustic, roasty personality.

Clos du Caillou "Les Quartz" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

93 Wine Advocate
93 Jeb Dunnuck
(8/28/2018) "Spice, loamy soil, dried red fruits, and plenty of dried floral notes all emerge from the 2016 Cotes du Rhone Les Quartz, which shows more and more minerality with time in the glass. It's elegant and seamless on the palate, with building tannin, and is a terrific introduction into the wines of this estate."

Domaine Gramenon "Sierra du Sud" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2015

If you love Syrah from the Rhone, then you must check this one out! Showing the grape's raw and wild side, there is plenty of terroir in this bottle to go around.

(9/2017) "Still rather primal, offering ebullient flavors of blackberry and black cherry preserves up front, with ample violet, black tea and singed alder accents steadily emerging through the finish. Let this develop a bit in the cellar. Drink now through 2021. 250 cases imported."

Maxime-Francois Laurent "Il Fait Soif" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

91 Our Score
(3/2018) Maxime-Francois is the talented winemaking son of Philippe and Michele Laurent of Domaine Gramenon. His Cotes du Rhone, labeled playfully as "Il Fait Soif," is a delicious and very chuggable blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah that will surely quench your thirst. The fruit flavors of mixed dried red berries are complimented nicely with notes of dried herbs and black pepper. However, the incredible balance and softness of the texture is what makes this wine so darn delicious and fun to drink. Our sample bottle lasted for three days, but we expect you will polish yours off soon after popping the cork. This is glou-glou juice for sure!

Franck Balthazar Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

90 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
91 Our Score
(2/2017) This organically farmed Cotes-du-Rhone is a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache. The wine is bright and lively with generous plum and cranberry fruit, but finishes dry and serious with pronounced, silky tannins. Fermented with wild yeast and bottled without filtration, "natural" wine never tasted so good.

Domaine Giraud "Les Sables d'Arene" Cotes du Rhone 2016

90 Wine Advocate
90 Our Score
90 Jeb Dunnuck
(10/19/2017) "In addition to the Chateauneuf du Pape release, Marie makes a terrific Cotes du Rhone. The 2016 Cotes du Rhone Les Sables d'Arene comes all from Lirac and is a blend of 80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Mourvedre, aged all in concrete. Its medium ruby color is followed by perfumed notes of red and black fruits, garrigue and sandy/loamy soil aromatics. Fine, elegant, medium-bodied and seamless on the palate, it's ideal for drinking over the coming 4-6 years."

Domaine Marcoux Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

91 Jeb Dunnuck
91+ Our Score
(1/2018) Sisters Catherine and Sophie Armenier produce deliciously authentic wines at this family estate. From the stellar 2016 vintage, this is basically a baby Chateauneuf, sourced from two sites adjacent to the Chateauneuf-du-Pape border. The wine is primarily Grenache with small percentages of Mourvedre, Cinsault and Syrah added. The nose and palate give peppery, deep red fruits perfumed with fresh floral aromas. In the mouth, the wine is concentrated with a grainy grip and balanced with vibrancy and lift. An impressive effort here.

Clos du Mont-Olivet "Vieilles Vignes" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

Another overachieving 2016 Southern Rhone. This wine feels very traditional in style with that classic garrigue coming through. Spicy and sweetly fruited, it is a delicious wine with serious density and power.
