Mount Peak "Sentinel" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

92+ Wine Advocate
(10/2017) "4,750 cases were made of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Sentinel, 83% from the Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma and the rest from other Sonoma sources. It is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petite Sirah aged in 53% new French oak. Again, ripeness is well-noted in the 15.7% alcohol, but there is not a bit of heat to the wine's overall character. A wine of considerable stature, gravitas, intensity and full-bodied power, it is muscular, backward and somewhat primordial, this wine needs a good 1-2 more years bottle age and should last for 25-30 years. Patience, please."

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $69.99! $85 at the winery!
90-91 Our Score
(5/2019) We were pretty stunned to find the price from our distributor on this top-level, single-estate, family-owned, mountain-appellation Bordeaux Blend. All five varieties are represented in "Kristin" the top blend from the Ming family, a 200 case production. Phil Coturri, the maestro of of biodynamic farming in the mountains of Sonoma, has joined the team here as viticulturalist. Featuring a long, even growing season this newer appellation is early-budding with warm peak temperatures but strong diurnal shifts, at altitude, high above the fog line. The leaves inherent balance in the wine, despite its ripeness, and lavish 75% new french oak upbringing. It is a warm-hearted melange of smoked cherries, raspberry puree, mocha, vanilla and accented with dried green herb. Plump, pleasing and ready to rock! Pick this up for a fraction of its intended price.

Newton "Skyside" Sonoma County Chardonnay 2016

89 Our Score
(8/2018) "Skyside" is the new name for Newton's wines that have long been been known as "Red Label." Their 2016 Sonoma County Chardonnay is a real winner that really overdelivers. The complexity and balance offered in this beauty really stands out. Look for a rich, full and creamy mouthfeel with classic Chardonnay flavors of ripe apple, yellow pears and citrus zest layered with delicious oak-driven tones of fresh baked pie crust, baking spice, blanched almonds and a pleasant note of butterscotch.
