Kistler "Sonoma Mountain" Chardonnay 2016

Winemaker's Notes
"Produced since 1986. Just shy of 1800 feet in elevation, in a small bowl on the western edge of the Mayacama mountains lies the original Kistler planting. Thirty year old vines grow dry farmed in deep red volcanic ash, producing a wine with an intense sense of the mountain heritage of the delicate stone fruit that is lifted, like its McCrea cousin, yet firmer, and with a stronger core and added layers of richness."

(12/31/2016) "Blended with 10% Merlot, this wine sources grapes both from its famous estate, as well as from nearby Pickberry and Murray vineyards. It delights in luxuriously bright acidity and a jammy explosion of blackberry, chocolate, clove and tobacco, the texture roundly approachable."

Gamling & McDuck "Pickberry Vineyard" Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Franc 2014

$38 at the Winery! A great example of this "New Californian Wine" you've been hearing about!
91 Our Score
(9/2018) What an exciting and energetic bottle! Sometimes Cabernet Franc in California can lose its varietal identity, when grown in too warm of an area, picked on the ripe side. This is not the case with Gamling & McDuck's single-vineyard offering. This showcases all of our favorite elements of natural wine, with tension and lift in the palate. The wine bursts with ripe black plum, black cherry, violet and tobacco. The value for a bottle of this caliber sourced from a single site of 30 year old vines on Sonoma Mountain is unbelievable.
