Bodegas Cepa 21 "Hito" Ribera del Duero 2017

90 Our Score
(7/2019) From the family behind the great Ribera producer, Emilio Moro, Cepa 21 was launched nearly 20 years ago with a vision for a modern, fresher expression of the region. With a short, hot growing season and yields limited by spring frosts, the 2017 installment of their entry-level "Hito" offers excellent intensity. With eight months in seasoned oak, the depth of dark fruit and minerality take center stage here, with notes of black cherry, black currant, blackberry, graphite and smokey loam. We recommend an hour of decanting, and plenty of flank steak. Very delicious stuff here. Do not underestimate this wine!

Bodega Valdehermoso "Lagar del Rey" Rueda Verdejo 2017

89 Our Score
(9/2018) The latest release of this huge-value Verdejo is simply outstanding! Dry, crisp and very refreshing, the 2017 Lagar del Rey Verdejo is well balanced and full of upfront citrus zest, green pear and yellow peach fruit flavors with fresh floral notes and a hint of underlying minerality. Our third vintage in a row of this superstar white and it may be the best yet!
